Lanier Or Allatoona?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I will be vacationing in GA with my extended family this summer.  Both Allatoona and Lanier look to be fairly close, which should I get a guide on for Spotted bass?  Also any recommendations on guides?  Probably will be me and my brother-in-law going fishing.

Thanks

I have always had much better luck at Lanier. I have never taken a guide on either so I can't help you there.

If your bank fishing you will be walking as spotted bass love to roam . However they are both great fisheries , try a guide service for that spot of a lifetime on lanier .

No contest - Lanier by a LONG shot.

I've never fished with them but I hear Ryan Coleman and Jimbo on Lanier are well-regarded guides.

Jimbo on Lanier is pretty cool

Look up Lanier baits on Facebook. His name is jimmy Harmon. He guides on Lanier along with making his own baits. The other guides and most people know him as "The dropshot Jedi" not only will you catch a lot of fish. It's a great price and you'll get a full ab workout laughing. He is the funniest guy I've met. Also if you want to check out a great tackle shop look up Oakwood Bait and tackle. It's a tiny hole in the wall shop but carries everything quality.

Lanier hands-down

Jimbo is a good friend of mine! He used to live up here in northern Virginia and fish the occoquan res as a younger man! I love that guy!

If you get a chance to get out there with him, tell him little Jon said hello!

Lanier all the way

Just fished allatoona on sunday (nothing, no bites, white cap waves, miserable).  I'd say Lanier too....

PM sent. AVOID LANIER on holiday weekends. thats the only big thing there.

I used to live near Allatoona and never was able to bring in many fish from the bank.

Fish for stripes on Lanier!

I have been fishing Allatoona the past month and have caught nothing.

Allatoona is the worst lake Ive ever fished.

It's not known as the dead sea for nothing.  I'd hit up Lanier, also I'd visit a bait shop in Kennesaw (The Dugout), best tackle shop I've been to other then Bass Pro

Have you been to Hammond's up in Cumming, near Lanier?  Hammonds blows the Dugout out of the water (pun intended :) ).

The dugout is a GREAT SHOP. It's in Marietta though unless there's more than one. My favorite on Lanier is Oakwood.
