I picked up a 6'8 med xf avid x with a curado that I plan on throwing walking baits, mostly spook jrs, puppy, chug bugs etc. I'm thinking mono is the way to go, but looking for suggestions w a similar setup.

I have a 7ft med hvy *** black fast action with a tatula Type R 6:3-1 wich I use with 10lb mono for spooks,poppers,prop baits etc/. But braid works great also 50-65lb.

12# yz hybrid.

I use 12-15 lb copolly, McCoy mean green to be exact

30# braid

10# CXX or 20# SuperCast work for me.

For topwater I like plain old Trilene XL 10 lb but I have been using Senshi from Seagur lately and it has been awesome.

you want the line to float, you want it to cast easily, you want it to retrieve without a lot of noise, You want to slow the whole process down so you don't set the hook too soon, what else can do all of these except mono? 

Set the hook too soon? Fish eats bait. What are you waiting for?

You could use a mono leader with the braid.

Ok, thanks for the ideas. I will give mono a shot but might pick up some yozuri for another rod. I see quute a few on here like that line.

Most people have a tendency to strike too soon on surface lures.  I do much better when I consciously wait just a bit after the fish's strike to set the hook.  I've used Yozuri Hybrid co-polymer , too, and it is a very good casting line, stretch similar to mono.  I don't remember having any trouble with it sinking too fast for surface.

My trick for topwater bites- and I spend ALOT of time throwing a spook- is to laugh a bit at the bite. Enjoy the moment. Don't be so keyed up to set the hook. That small hesitation of smiling or yelling woo is enough for the fish to fully take the bait. Reel into the fish THEN set he hook. Strong sweep set is all that's needed.

My topwater set up is a 6'10 Medium/fast Duckett Ghost with a Team Lew's. I use 12# copolly for this. Love fishing Chug bug's on the bend.

I'm still experimenting with line for topwater, P line cxx didn't do it for me so I'm trying 15lb big game next

12lb to 15lb. Mono (Sufix , Big Game , Stren , etc.) Nothing fancy here - just a good mono with a little line diameter to it so it floats high .

30lb. Braid (Power Pro , Sufix , etc.... take your pick - with or without a mono leader ) .

12lb to 15lb Co-Poly (perhaps McCoy if you can find it - No to C-XX) For top water,  mono and braid are better choices and certainly easier to find !
