had my curado I for a year now and had it professionally cleaned before this season. anywah today i took it out and started making a loud whining sound on sidearm casts but overhead casts were normal. now all a sudden on overhead casts its makin this same loud noise. anyone ever have an issue like this with a reel?

Try putting some oil inside the cover where the brakes are to see if that quiets it down.

just tried it but no luck. some casts it sounds normal then the next cast is this ridiculously loud whiny sound. guess ill call the guy who cleaned it and see what he thinks

I recently had some whining sounds during casting with my Chronarch Ci4. My first thought was that it also needed some oil on the brake pipe. That didn't work, so I took the spool completely out and noticed that the pin on the spool shaft wasn't centered. I took some pliers and centered the pin and that fixed the noise. I'm not sure how the pin became un-centered to begin with as I've never messed with it before and it takes some pressure for it to even move, but anyways, hopefully that works for you.

Join the club. I'm in the same boat as you. Apparently this is extremely common with this reel. Mine has done it since I bought it, but it goes away for a while then comes back.

I used a Q tip to run a light film of oil around the brake drum and none of mine make any noise now. 

I wish that they still made the Curado G. It was a fine reel. I'd much rather have a new G for $130 than a new I for $129. If loving the G is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Oil on the brake run. Have same reel with the same issue and when you use the qtip and clean the brake run first then oil, problem solved. This instruction comes with the reel on a yellow piece of paper in the box.

A little alcohol on a swab will clean the brake cone and shoes. A very thin film of light oil applied to the cone should quiet them. You can also put a light film inside the frame where the spool rides.  

I got tired of it and sold mine.  Annoying.

Following the suggestion that comes in the box will avoid the issue of the screeching. Now that I know my reels are prone to this I make sure the brake drum is lightly oiled on a consistent basis. Problem solved. Minor if any inconvenience for me.
