My name is Nick and I've been fishing since I was 8 or so.  My maternal grandfather and uncle were moderately interested in fishing.  So my brother and I told our father that we wanted to go fishing.  Even though he grew up with a small boat, he had no interest in fishing.  He got us some Zebco 202 combos and bobbers and random stuff.  He actually had a customer who was a fishing tackle middle-man, so I think he got us stuff twice from them.  We only went fishing during summer RV trips.  My first fish I caught at the RV pond was a bluegill that I caught, completely bored and ready to leave, on a black plastic spider jig.  After a couple years, he got us some Shimano spinning combos and I got better and catching bluegill and small catfish...

After a lot of reading as a child (and not understanding much of it), and not much use of a boat, I went to college in a town with a large river and learned the techniques for catching bass, walleye, catfish, carp, excreta.  I've been out of school for 9 years now, I purchased a small rowboat and just got a trailer last year which helped tremendously.  I've been ice fishing the last 2 years, and my 5 year old son and I have been on the boat a lot this spring.  I can't say that I've ever been much into smallmouth and largemouth bass much, but the boat (in addition to being able to take my 5 year old) has totally changed my attitude about that.

Greetings Nick and Welcome to the forums  :)

Welcome aboard , Nick. It's always good to have more regional representation. I hope your success keeps growing and your sons interest in the sport grows as well.
