contemplating getting myself a rod for strictly topwater. right now im using an older shimano crucial mh/f 6'6 which i also throw spinnerbaits on but i mostly fish from the bank and sometimes working topwaters my rod will slap the ground. i considered grabbing one of the 6ft all star topwater rods at academy but read some bad reviews on those. found a couple used 6'2 Avids but they have an extra fast tip im not sure thats what i want. any rod suggestions? anything 6ft to 6ft 3 inches would probably work best for me.

That Avid would work.

I use a 6'3" team daiwa topwater/twitchin rod, it works great and they were made for over a decade so plenty of used ones should be out there.

The Daiwa S-Rod MH 6'3" (older green model) pop up fairly often, they are awesome TW rods.

I really like a composite or glass rod for topwaters, unless we are talking frogs. A 7' M Veritas Winch 2.0 is very good for lighter topwaters, with a 7' mh better for bigger topwaters. The BPS crankin' sticks are great in this price range too. Either way you can't go wrong.

All Star makes nice rods.. Don't believe everything you read on the web.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the negative reviews on a topwater rod. A six footer is a good length regardless of where you're fishing from. Fast, or mod.fast on the tip depending on your choices in topwaters.

id like to find one of those daiwa rods. ive got a cpl glass rods but both r 7footers.

I use that exact Avid you're talking about for poppers and smaller jerkbaits (78 pointers, RC STX Jrs), you will not find a better rod for those baits IMO.

It works great for those also, especially the small to mid sized ones but I've fished full size spooks on it too.

I use an Okuma Reflexion 6'6" MH I traded out of a pawn shop brand new and it has some great back bone and action for top water fishing. Sits nicely below the $100 range for a decent rod as well.

No brainer, the Avid would be my choice.

dang. the auction ended on the avid. im lookin at the cabelas tourney trail rods they hav a 6footer on sale for 42 bucks. sure would like to have the avid tho
