I'm partial to the Xcaliburs. They run really good. As for gigglin' at a $12 lure. That's kinda pointless. I'm guessing that the guy fishing your lake with a $12 lure is beating the crap out of you when you fish with Bill Lewis Traps. I wouldn't fish Bill Lewis Traps after they discontinued my favorite color and raised their prices anyways. No reason for me to buy them anymore...

So do you have data showing where these $12 lures are out fishing the Lewis Traps so badly? If so, I'd really like to see that data because the fish in my lake haven't gotten that memo!

I could care less what anyone pays for a lure but, statements like yours are ridiculous.

River2Sea makes great baits with quality finishes and components. The Bubble Walker has been a killer for me this year. If the water ever clears up, I expect the Rovers to continue to produce like they did for a minute before the constant rains started and muddied everything up. Their squarebills are nice, and the Whopper Plopper has somewhat of a cult following around here but I've seen enough fish caught on it to know it works. $12 for a bait with good paint, hooks and split rings I don't have to change? Yeah, I'll probably try a couple. 

I love river2sea baits I had one of the best days I've ever had fishing throwing a whopper plopper. The bubble walker has also produced for me. I think people might think they're gimmicks because Larry Dalberg has so many ideas for new baits. If you've ever watched his show the hunt for big fish you'd know what I'm talking about this guy is unbelievable. He's forgotten more about fishing then I could ever learn. The diver frog is junk but most other baits are pretty good quality. Just my 2cents.

I actually think the diving frog is a good lure "but" it's not like a cover water lure. It's more like you know where a fish is or might be and you only need to cover 5' of water. I actually caught a couple good fish like that but never really put time in with it. I think the legs ended up melting and I have the body somewhere. I guess its like a pitching frog if thats a good example. Toss it to a spot work it for a few seconds then rinse and repeat. That's how I see it working best and people having luck with them.

Well, I can't buy a Sparkle Perch colored trap anymore so what's the point. Its the only color of Bill Lewis I've ever fished. I've always gone with other baits for different finishes... No reason to buy from them anymore. Especially after they raised THEIR prices right after discontinuation of Sparkle Perch.

Dahlberg Diver is border line gimmicky, they also had a crawfish crankbait (not the Clackin' Craw) that looked kinda cheesy. I just checked their website and it looks like most of the gimmicky stuff has been discontinued. They have some pretty cool stuff you can't get with any other company. They walk the line between different/creative and "gimmicky" pretty well.

Y'know and this is why I maybe shouldn't have said gimmicky even though that's what came to mind first. Strange maybe? Different? I guess maybe it struck me as odd that they can make a huge wake bait for under $20 but the trap is $12.

I had the diving frog and that silly craw crank with the claws from a while back stuck in my mind but they do have some quality normal stuff. Never seemed to be an expensive-side company though even with the strangeness now and then but hey- The more I think of it those weird baits mean they're trying to think outside the box and I can respect that even if I'm not jacked up to throw it personally.

The diving frog for sure will catch fish. You just have to not compare it to other frogs as they don't fish the same at all. It's more like a backwards jig or t-rig. Instead of going from the bottom towards the surface it goes from the surface towards the bottom.

The constant chirp of the yerkes R2S monkey over my shoulder is getting to me. 

I'd buy a few if they came in different sizes. R2S makes great stuff. Their previous lipless crank costed the same amount. The Tungsten Vibe. Caught plenty of smallmouth on them as I do most R2S baits

To you guys talking about replacing hooks, Bill Lewis traps now come standard with Triple Grips which have been more than good enough for me…

FWIW, Rattlin Raps are pretty good and not too pricey either.

All lures have their time and place. I love my high dollar lures, but ive also had days when i caught 3 times as many bass on 6 dollar bomber long a than i did on a 15 dollar pointer. As far as if the bait is worth 12 dollars, i personally wouldnt give that, bit i lose lipless baits like crazy because i usually fish them on bottom around cover. Amd if it had megabass wrote on the top, it would probably go for at least twice that

Especially from R2S.  I'm struggling to think of something they've made that I've been impressed with.  I'm sure there is something, but it definitely is not coming to me at the moment.  They always seem to come up with weird gimmicky type lures that look cool and don't work all that great.

S-Waver, Whopper Plopper, Bubble Pop, Rover and Pro Tuned Rover... Just to name a few. Every one of them is a solid bait with super capabilities. I've never fished a bait from them that I didn't like.

Worth every penny!

Only R2S lure I've used is the Bubble Popper and it is SWEET.  Good action and nice components.  If the lipless is built like the popper ill buy one for sure.  Just going to wait for some reviews.

Every lure mentioned here sounds different then its competition. The size and profiles are different. For instance the LV500 is 3/4oz and is the same size as a half ounce rattle trap. Which one do you think is better in the grass? If people payed less attention to the price or where its made and more attention to the characteristics of the bait, they would catch more fish. Another fun fact... not all lipless baits rest upright on the bottom. It is about choosing the right tool for the job.

You could catch night crawlers for free, would that make buying $7 senkos a joke?

$15 for three 1/2 oz Rat-L-Traps, where I need to replace the hooks and frown when the paint comes off after a few fish.

 

$16.50 for three 1/2 oz Red Eye Shads, which I need to test and tune and retest. Good thing it has that seductive shimmy on the fall for when I get frustrated and throw them in the lake.

This statement I'm going to make is not aimed at you. Just a general statement. But what makes a lure company start the marketing of a brand new bait in a very crowded segment of the market at the very top of the price range? There are already much cheaper lipless cranks that work quite well. It would take a lot of pros telling me this was the best on the market to get me to pay $16 for it.
