Hello, i use a 7ft baitcaster and have 12lb yo zuri hybrid line on it.

I was looking yesterday at the rebel pop-r's and i wasn't sure which one to buy. I ended up buying the rebel pop-r magnum which weighs 1/2 oz. They also had the regular size which is 1/8oz i believe but I thought id have a hard time casting it. Did i make the right choice? Is the magnum too large for most bass?

Look at the lures used for most bass and you'll quickly realize they could change the "magnum" part of the name and noone would object. Get out and fish it!

From what i understood yo zuri hybrid is mono coated with florocarbon, so it floats. Everyone i asked sais it floats.

It floats, used it for years without issue on topwaters

Always good to have the option to downsize your topwater if your only getting swirls and follow-ups.

I've got that magnum size and the regular Pop R. Seems I get more bites on the smaller one. But that's the one I have confidence in. So I fish it more. Maybe I'd use the big one in a chop with obvious schoolies. Or stripers.

I have always been a Pop-R fan, and when I switched over to the Zell Pop I started having even more success.  My main retrieve is a very subtle constant walk.  The last few years I have been throwing it on straight 30lb braid.

I have quite a few top water lures, every single one down the line catches fish.  I personally use a storm chug a bug 3/8 oz most of the time, can cast it well on any of my rods.  I like that lure because it appeals to my eye, don't think the fish are as fussy as me.

Rebel makes a Pop-R 65 series (I believe) that weighs closer to 3/8th oz. and is in - between the mag size and the smaller 1/8th oz. size .

I use that 65 series with success on BC outfit with 14lb. Stren . Check out the another site web site as they have a great selection (plus the in-between size I mentioned) .

Now go out and throw that Popper and see what happens.

 

Then go back to the store and buy the next smaller size.

 

And on and one adding different colors until you find the ones that work best.

 

Yes, not bad hitting a homeless person but it can hit the fan if you hit a doctor or lawyer with your car.

 

Same with your baits: You never know who you are going to hit after the bait hits the water.

In my neck of the woods the only things you'll catch with the 1/8 oz Pop R are 'gills and less than 8 inch bass, truckloads of them, it would still be fun tho.

My favorite popper is an old Rebel Pop R looking bait. I dont know if it is a  magnum Pop R or not but its bigger than Pop R's . Its silver with blue back and the old Rebel zig zag line pattern.  I fish stained water a lot and this lure is one of my favorite summer time baits. When the sun is out and   a slight chop on the water it will catch the heck out of bass that are almost keepers .  I   fish deep , 40 foot,   standing timber with it , 

I think the standard is 1/4 oz. The mag is 1/2. Of course it flies out there. But then there are times the bait is small and the fish aren't just busting everything in the water. At those times the 1/4 will do the job more consistently. I wouldn't throw the 1/8 unless I was in a creek where I know there are no big fish. Bream will bite the tiny ones and always seem (to me) to get all three treble hooks embedded so badly it closes their mouth. Then you have to do surgery on a fish you don't want to keep.
