I saw the new Citica I listed on TW today and I started looking it over (considering selling my Tatula R and getting another Shimano). It didn't take me long to notice that this reel appears to be the exact same as the Curado I. Am I missing something here? Why should I spend the extra cash on a Curado? 

 

 

Both have:

Xship

5 bearings + 1 ARB

Same Spool Capacity

Same Weight

Same Gear Ratio's

SVS braking

Same shape?

 

 

 

Side note: I do already own two Curado I's. Just trying to justify why I should spend the extra $30 if not needed. 

Why don't you buy the Citica I and report back your comparison findings...

ive read theres a couple minor diferences i think with the spool

The spools look the same and both have the same capacity ratings.

I wondered the same thing. The only real difference I see so far is the curado lists 3 S-arb bearings and 2 stainless steel bearings. The citica lists 5 stainless steel bearings.

If they are the same performance wise then it I guess it all comes down to color.

I don't think it's been confirmed yet but if I had to guess the differences between the two it would be the spool material/weight and lesser quality bearings are found in the new Citica.

The curado has better bearings and a double anodized spool.  Other than that it's pretty much the same reel.

So... put in a set of hybrid ceramic bearings and it becomes better than a Curado?

I started the first thread on this. Curado was price dropped to $129 by Shimano then when they announced the Citica they raised the price back to $179 and put the Citica for $149. So... Anyone buying either for more than $129 is getting ripped off.

The curado has better bearings and a double anodized spool. Other than that it's pretty much the same reel.

I've posted this numerous times now in the other threads like this. A double anodized spool just means it has two different colors on it. It is in no way superior to the citica spool, just a way to add a color.

The MAP holiday was to move through inventory.... With ICAST coming up, I'm sure a lot of these companies are just looking to move through inventory with the new arrivals on the way. Just because they CAN and have sold the Curado for $129, doesn't mean that that type of pricing is sustainable or profitable. I think that even at $179, the Curado is a great reel...

I think that I will backtrack on my not really having a problem with Shimano's decision making nowadays. That said, I am very happy with my Curado 200HG and I would not have a problem buying a Citica if I could find it cheaper than a Curado I.

So I basically got it for free. Chronarch Es never paid more than $150. Curado Gs never more than $90. Citica Gs never more than $75... Anyhow when this debate started I ended up with Scorpions for less than both the Citica and Curado.
