Hey I recently purchased a abu Garcia vendetta 7 0 MH fast action rod for mostly jigging 3/8 jigs and Texas rigged worms. Is this a good choice? I live in the midwest so it s not like I m pitching Florida s heavy cover. My other choice is a vendetta 7 6" heavy rod. Which is better for jig fishing? Thanks a bunch!

MH should be fine provided you are not throwing into heavy cover.

It is completely possible to cast to, detect a strike, play & land bass with a rod that may not necessarily be "The Best".

 

I think I'm working with sticks in the "not Too Bad category" and seem to do OK.

 

 Just get one you like, you'll be good.

Too late to ask if it is the best.  You've already bought the rod so what does it matter? 

 

Like A-Jay said, you don't need the "best" to catch fish.  I caught plenty of fish before the Internet.  Local K-mart was my store of choice.   Ignorance can be bliss.

Good rod choice. Earlier this year I joined the Denali Rods Pro Staff. So now I am using their rods. But up until this year, I only used Abu Veritas and Vendetta rods.

You said your out in the Midwest  so having never fished out there idk what your lakes are like. it is a good rod, I use the 7'3 mh vendetta that I use for that purpose. I also have a 7'6 heavy vendetta I wouldn't suggest it unless you don't need sensitivity (ie use it for swimbaits over pads) it is not a jig rod, big worm rod, or a flippin stick

That's solid. I have a 7'2 MH XF Rage that I like for jigs, worms, and spinnerbaits and I like it a lot. It's sensitive and has a ton of backbone - and they're currently on sale for $89 on the St Croix website. It has microguides, and the grip is different, but it's a ridiculous value even if you prefer normal guides and cork.

while it is possible to land fish on a rod that's not the best and have fun doing it, you'll land more fish and have more fun if you at least invest in an appropriate rod. There is no rod that does everything well, so if you want a rod that's right for jigs and t rigs, don't buy one made for cranks. You know what you need. You already bought it. Ugly sticks and zebcos from Wally world are great if you're just starting out, but if you're to the point where you're cruising this forum and buying Abu rods, you know ugly sticks and zebcos are crap as well as you know a 7' mh fast is for jigs. Don't waste your time seeking validation on here when you could be finding out for yourself whether you made the right choice or not. Tight lines!

Is it the best? Maybe not because that's highly subjective and dependent on price range. But for a general purpose jig rod it should get the job done. As A-Jay said you don't need the best. Get the rod that is best for you, and go enjoy it.

The Veritas has a good reputation for sensitivity and backbone, and should be a good jig rod. Try some different line types - switching from mono to flourocarbon makes more of a difference then switching from a $100 to a $200 rod, IMO of course

I very recently bought two rods for jigs. A G Loomis IMX and a St Croix Avid. The G Loomis is rated 1/4-1 and the St Croix is rated 3/8-1. Both rods are 6'.

The St Croix is a tad bit stiffer which I expected.

I also have a Lews Magnum One. It's 7' and rated 1/4-7/8,

It's seriously stiff with a very fast tip. I can easily flip pad and weed mats with it. Ratings are all over the place these days. It's a real pain it the butt when trying to decide on a rod that's not available locally.

I've got a DX745 it's amazing. Spent way to much on it, but it's pretty much the only rod I use these days.
