Hello from Texas, Has anyone else notice how hard and long you have to work this summer just to bring in a halfway decent largemouth? Is this just a North Texas thing or what? Yes, it's hot, REAL hot hear in Texas. And yes, we did have some flooding about 2 months ago. In fact most lakes are still above normal levels. My lake, which is lake Joe Pool, is still closed to the public. That being the case I've focused my efforts on some local ponds which have never disappointed me in the past. These ponds are rarely ever fished and have always been what I would call "Honey Holes". Well, I don't know what happed or what changed but the Honey is gone. The 3,4,&5 pound beautiful healthy looking bass have all but vanished From all three ponds I fish. Ill snag some tiny ones and the occasional 2 pounder but its rare. I know the fish are in there. What's the deal? It's like a switch was flipped off. Any ideas or thoughts on what causes bass in different ponds to just stop??

As for the challenges of Summertime Bass'in, it may have to do with the seasonal abundance of food routinely found in each system this time of year.

UNT grad myself. Didn't do bass fishing

back in those days... But summer can

be tough in general.

Ill snag some tiny ones and the occasional 2 pounder but its rare.

 

I don't have your heat up here, but I also don't have as many of good size where I fish. In late summer the occasional 2 pounder pretty much makes my day.

I just started to fish around Fort Worth and have mostly caught fish under 2 lbs. I did land one that was closer to 5 or 6 out of the Trinity River. I never get bites after 8:00 am, though.

Thanks everyone for all the warm welcomes and for all the good advise and friendly comments. So My plan for now will be to stay the course and hope the Fall season brings a change for the better. I know summer bass fishin has always been a challenge. This year must be just alittle tougher in my region of North Texas. Why? who know's. I do know the fish are still there and the "ON" switch will flip at some point and ill be there when it does !!!  By the way, has anyone ever gained permission to fish a pond located on land owed by a community college? Who, and how do I ask for permission? Thanks yall.

Welcome to Bass Resource, I'm in Waco Texas and the heat is hard to fish through, I have found going earlier before sunrise helps and fishing deep after sunrise can help get some bites, our community college has signs up by there river dock with fishing times, I'd call and ask though cause some may not have signs, the university denied me access to there river property
