Fishing Backpack

Featured Replies

After two years of using a cheap drawstring to hold my tackle boxes, the fabric has finly given out and I am looking for a replacement bag.

I primarily fish small ponds, so I move around quite a lot. In general, I'd like a bag large enough to fit 4 3600 size boxes and a few bags of soft plastics, while being durable enough to last for several years.

I'm considering the Okuma Backpack from TW, but haven't seen many reviews on it. Does anyone have any experience with the Okuma bag?

Well anyways, for all of you who also use backpacks when fishing, what backpack could you recommend for carrying fishing tackle?

I use a regular jansport backpack from walmart, fits 4 3600s fine with plenty of room for more, had it for 3 years already. Just wish it had more pockets for other things. The okuma backpack looks good though.

TW backpack, and get yourself 4x 3700s...

I use a Spiderwire sling pack for when I fish from shore.

Get a regular bookbag, works just fine.

Regular book bag for me, calling it a fishing backpack jacks up the cost for little pockets here and there (not worth it for me).

I've become a big fan of Field Supply.  Their gear is top notch and their everyday prices can't be beat.  But their sales are something else altogether.  I'm using this pack and absolutely love it:

Extremely good quality; well designed with lots of pockets and plenty of space in main compartment for 3 or 4 3700's or half a dozen gallon bags of full of plastics.  Paid less than $30 shipped and couldn't be happier.

Like others have said, I use a regular school backpack from Walmart and it works great.

I have a browning fishing backpack that I used for years, but now I only use it a hand full of times a year. It's durable and really nice but it holds too much stuff. I end up packing it full with stuff I really use. I've since moved to the standard book bag to limit what I bring.

Save your money and go thrift store shopping for backpacks. You'll find them for $5 or less. More money for lures!

I keep these 2 Fanny Packs in my car all the time for the ponds, along with 1 dishtub of tackle that can be added or removed for specific places.

I also keep a pair of Lacrosse boots in there and several 2-piece rods.

This is the best system I've found, you are always ready and totally mobil/hands free.

I've gone through about 6 backpacks trying to find the perfect one and the Kelty Redtail 30 is still the one I always use.  Lightweight and fits everything.  I did notice the Redtail 30 seems to be no longer made and it's now the Redtail 27, so not sure what design changes they made to cut down on 3L of storage.

I ended up buying a good quality bag from REI, one that has a front pocket with small compartments and pockets for small items, and a large bag. I'm often out all day and carry a bunch of stuff incl lunch, water, and raingear. It's been in use for several years now and I have no complaints. I had some cheaper "fishing" bags and got rid of each in turn.
