Triton or Skeeter?

To each his own of course, but for my money it's 'Triton'

I’ve never owned a Skeeter, but in spite of its rich price they’re rumored to have a choppy ride, known as the “Skeeter Jounce”.

For the past couple years I’ve been running a 17 ft Triton with a 115 hp.Merc.  We just got back from a week vacation on Lake Michigan (Les Cheneaux Islands).

The trailer didn't do too well, because I had a blowout on the way to Michigan and another blowout on the way back to Florida (14" tires & a 36-gal fuel tank is a bad mix).

The Triton however did remarkably well. Despite a stiff eastern wind, the little girl handled the chop very nicely all week.

It is just that a rumor!

You will hear what's called the Skeeter Slap which is nothing more than a noise made by the hull in chop but it is not felt in the boat.

I was gonna say, when I was on the skeeter, we were going over the top of wakes from other boats and we hit some from a couple 50+ft boats and was fine..we hit the regular wakes at 65+ ..hit one at 70ish and didn't notice it

I have a Skeeter TZX 200. It's way faster than I'll ever go. Very smooth and dry ride. I've owned several different

brand boats. This is the best one I've been in.

We have a ton of Skeeters up here in our club.  There is usually 1-3 Electric/Live-well issues per tournament season with them (Caught fire, killed entire bags of fish, fish finders not getting power, etc).  The Tritons have "dried out" over the last couple years.

Asking for opinions on boat brands is like asking about Ford vs Chevy.  You'll get strong opinions either way.

I myself am partial to Ranger.  I'd say have the dealer take you out on each and then decide.  You'll know instantly which you prefer.

My choice came to both of these boats discussed. I ended up with the Triton 189TRX over the Skeeter. The final decision had less to do with boat signatures and more to do with the Dealership itself. The Skeeter came with a 175 and my Triton came with a 150.

I was originally going with the Skeeter, but the dealer was so shady, I pulled the trigger on the Triton. Had the boat a few months now and no problems so far.

Wet ride ? I haven't noticed that at all. I will tell you their trailers suck. Noisy and troublesome.

I can only speak as a co-angler.  I have been on both boats and prefer the Skeeter.  Better ride and better compartment layout but that is personal preference.

I've decided now, since I live in CT, im more than likely going 5o wait till next season to buy a boat. There is a boat show in January every year so I'll be able to get more in depth with ranger, skeeter, triton, etc. .qybe that won be the best too, pending g on where you live
