P-Line Cxx Extra Strong Copolymer - For Topwater ?

Featured Replies

I'm curious if anyone has used the above stated line as a main line for topwater applications such as : Poppers , Spooks , etc. with success ?

My concern is whether this line used again , as a main line would sink too much to be effective for topwater applications ? ... Thanks in advance for your replies !

I used it for everything for years. It works fine for topwater.

Yep, that and Big Game are my 2 main lines I use anymore. It's great for pretty much any treble hooked or moving bait.

Copolymer line doesn't sink.

CXX does sink, though very slowly. I use it for topwater just fine, but I prefer Tuf-Line Supercast. Floats, no stretch, handles easier.

I've been using it for any treble hooked lure, topwater and cranks. Seems to work fine so far.

What would # test would you recommend for topwater/jerkbait?

Thanks!

not true at all , just sinks slowly like most all mono and coploymer lines

That answers the top water question - I often find myself with just one rod , so I'm liable to throw on a  swim jig ,  T-Rig worm , craw , etc.  on a baitcaster with #12lb. CXX , so hopefully adequate for jig hooks and worm hooks as well  ...

I like 12lb CXX for anything with trebles. Might try some 10lb on my deep crank rod, just for a bit more depth.

I might be crazy, but my 15 lb. CXX does not seem to sink.

Love P-Line!  I use it for cranking, swim baits and topwater - it seems to be incredibly strong, but it does have significant memory, so be aware of that.  Caught these two jokers on topwater this weekend - 12lb test, Revo SX Gen3, Duckett Micro Magic 7' MH, Super Spook, Jr:

I use P Line and have the best at tying knots, abrasion, etc..only problem, like stated, it has memory..that's the one problem I have with it.and copolymer does sink, but slowly

I use the 25 or 30# Supercast.

All mono Nylon line floats until it breaks the water surface tension, then it suspends. My point is P-Line CXX is a mono line, blended with another poltmer with the same density and acts exactly the same any any mono line. If you want it to float like a cork, then use fly line dressing for about 3'. The OP question was should he use it for top water and the answer is yes!

Thanks Tom & others - I'm going to try a small spool of P-Line CXX Xtra Strong #12lb. on my baitcaster to start for top water , as well as , various jigs , T-Rig soft plastics and the occasional C-Rig . Being that #12lb. CXX is similar in diameter to other mono / copoly #15+lb. line sizes it should fit the bill fine ... Later , I have a unused heavy baitcast set up which I will try  with CXX Xtra Strong #17lb. for flipping soft plastics into vegitation and the like .

Take a look at Toray BAWO super hard hi-grade copolymer line, 12 lb is .011 D, 16 lb is .013 D if you want a strong small diameter copolymer line.

My compliant with P-Line CXX was memory and turning whitish in colder water or weather. Good line otherwise.

Tom

PS, P-Line CXX isn't small diameter line, 12# = .0148 diameter!

i used to use P-line CXX in 20 & 25 lb. line for swimbaits till i unfortunately learned that if you get a kink in the line , no matter where in the spool , you can & will have break offs !! i learned the hard way , getting break offs any where from 5 - 25 yards up the line , with my swimbait ...

only time i use CXX is in 6 lb. line for trout , i respool after each outing .

Any line will do that, even braid.

P-Line CX has worked well for me. I have no problem with Stren line either. They both work well as leaders.. All my reels are spooled with braid.

maybe i've been lucky with other lines because it's  only happened with CXX :Idontknow:
