Clocks Back Tonight

Featured Replies

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 AM this Sunday, at which point most of the country will set their clocks back one hour for no real reason other than that our parents did it.

We love us some ridiculous traditions.

And it's one ridiculous tradition I wish would end....

Tight lines,

Dear Mr. Robertson:

Thank you for contacting me with your suggestions regarding Daylight Savings Time.  I recognize the time and effort that you are dedicating to actively participate in the democratic process, and I appreciate that you and other concerned citizens have provided me the benefit of your comments on this matter.

As you may know, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (P.L. 109—58) contained an energy conservation provision which changed the duration of Daylight Savings in the spring from the first Sunday in April to the second Sunday in March, and in the fall from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November.

Proponents of the measure pointed to the early 1970s, when the last notable change to Daylight Savings Time occurred.  As a result of that shift, the United States realized sizable energy savings—the approximate equivalent of 100,000 barrels of oil a day.  P.L. 109-58 was passed in an effort to achieve similar energy savings.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent Texas in the United States Senate, and you may be certain that I will keep your views in mind should relevant legislation be considered during the 113th Congress.  Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator

winter would be so much better w/o DST :respect-059: . i heard it has nothing to do with energy anymore. parents don't want their kids waiting in the dark for the morning school bus.  a friend in local government said they are the powerful constituency that prevents change :cry4: soccer mom outrage anytime they try to do away with DST :dazed-7:
