Bass Jumping

Featured Replies

The other day bass started jumping around the boat chasing shad. I managed to catch a couple on a pop r before they quit jumping, but wondered if there is a better lure for that situation. Lets hear it. Thanks.

When hitting shad like that a lot of lures work. The Pop R was a wise choice. When they stop hitting they are still there somewhere. Try finding the nearest cover or structure and fish tight to it .

I like the super shallow squarebills like the KVD 1.0 when I see baitfish breaking surface!

I don't have a lot of experience with shad, but that sounds like time for a moving topwater. Maybe a walking bait (Spook, Sammy, Etc.)

A lot of lures will work, but there are sometimes those dang fish are picky about the size. There has been many times I've been there and thrown spooks, flukes, pop r, and they wanted a tiny 2" swing impact reeled super fast. I guess sometimes it just depends on what size bait they're chasing.

I fish walking baits because I can fish them fast and cast them a long ways. A grub/swimbait on a jighead or a spoon is a good option once the school sounds.

Walking baits and fluke type baits, those are great when the fish are busting bait.

Lipless is what I throw first, then topwater depending on bite.
