Whopper Plopper Help

Just discovered these bad boys. Was wondering what the difference between the 90 and the 130 is besides size? Do any of y'all have experience with both or recommend one over the other? They look really cool and seem to work exceptionally well

The size is the only difference....

Get the 130. Bigger disturbance and profile draws the violent strikes. Plus the 130 cast a mile so you can really cover water since it's not a numbers bait most days.

Simple 90mm & 130mm it's the length?

It's a good bait. I can tell you one thing, it is a pike magnet. I have caught twice as many pike on it as bass, that's for sure. Other than a moreau mouse, this bait gets the most violent strikes for me. I love fishing it in scattered pads and vegetation.

I really need to get off this forum. Saw a video about this lure 2 months ago on kayak bassin and didn't pay much attention to it, but this thread got me craving. My regular dealer(TW) ran out so I had to go to the bay. Anyone with experience know if it will work in the winter Deep South Texas? What is the maximum depth you would fish these? Thanks

If they are eating topwater where you're at, I imagine they'll still eat them. For me they've been most effective in water less than 10' deep with 1-5 being optimal range but guys are calling them up from 20+ at Table Rock. It's a noisy bait with a lot of drawing power. I've been ignoring guys telling me to get one for over a year now. Finally gave in this fall and wish I'd listened to them a lot sooner.

The strikes are vicious every time it seems, regardless of the size of the fish. This is the best strike I've caught on film, and it wasn't even a big one.

Thanks Blue. I'm a land locked saltwater guy who is starting to like this bass fishing thing. I haven't gotten these fish figured out yet or even close but I have seen a big improvement in my last 4 trips. I appreciate the tip and video thank you.

Everything I've heard/seen about these is positive, and I just love moving topwater baits; but for some reason, I have ignored them. Although, the comment that they are pike magnets...Lol, just what I need: another pike magnet...

I have the 90 and it's a great lure. It reminds me a bit of my Heddon Torpedo, in that it can be stopped but still create a buzzing surface disturbance. Similar, but I would rather tie the WP on.

Don't get the smallest one.  Yes it casts a mile but tends to submerge it choppy water.  The larger one stays on top and makes a ton of noise.  My buddy uses the biggest "pike" model and loves it.(for bass)

What are the best colors?

They were originally designed as a musky bait and downsized for bass

Might try one of my top raiders for bass lol.

Why is everyone hating on the smaller ones.  I have both sizes, and at times they won't eat the 130 but will smash the 90.  Agressive fish seem to smash the 130's and work great in spring and fall, summer when it's hot around where I'm at, they don't draw to the 130 like they do the 90.  But then they are pressured heavily and the more suttle presentation of the smaller one seems to draw them better.

I only have the 90 size and while I actually really like it, I do agree that it isn't my first choice in choppy water.  But it certainly has caught some fish for me!

Monkey Butt

Loon

Shad has done well for me but I think it's more about the commotion than the color.

I fish Monkey Butt and Rainbow on my 130's, Monkey Butt and Shad on the 90's......had a perch colored one that did really well too but it had issues and had to return it and they were out of that color so ended up with shad.

Thanks!

I've used several in the 90 size. I did get a couple that just didn't work correctly. They required a very fast retrieve to get the correct action. I need to return them. On the other hand, when they work, they really work! What impresses me is that the bass hit the front treble about 90% of the time.

I've caught 1.5lb bass on the 130. I also watched a 5lber rip a 130 out of a pickerel's mouth at the boat. Lol

Well I'm sold. I had a curiosity and now I have a mission. Thanks guys, I am always looking for a reason to buy more tackle.
