Replacing A Tip Top

Is Krazy Glue okay to use?

-Kent

I am not 100% certain it is water proof. Also, if you ever need to remove that tip top again... impossible. I would just stick with the standard glue.

Uh oh,  what did you do?

Should be. I typically use a hot glue that is used to fit inserts into aluminum arrows. That way it is easily removable. Those "super glues" do work though. You just better get it right the first time.

Hot glue melt will also fill-in any voids between the tip top and rod tip (the tip top should not be very snug, it should have a fairly loose fitting). It will be much easier to remove and replace in the future.

Place a little hot glue on the tip of the rod and the hole of the tip top. What should happen when you fit the tip top on is that excess glue (this will ensure you that you have ample amount of glue inside the tip top) will form a ring at the base of the tip top. Once it's dried you can peel it away with your finger tip.

Hope this helps

Kent, it'll work in a pinch but, the correct stuff is better. If you must use it, I would recommend the gel as I have sucessfuly removed tip tops that were applied with it. Be forewarned, though - it may take the finish off with it. I would really only consider the option on a rod with a broken tip.

Thanks! I will use hot glue.

BTW, I didn't break the tip, the insert came out.

It was on the inside and saved by the line. However,

after talking with G. Loomis Customer Service,

I was told the whole tip had to be replaced and

they are sending me a couple.

Hot glue.  The tip top is the guide most likely to break - either the ring failure or for other reasons.  You want to be able to slide it off instead of cut it off if you can.

What others said on the adhesive - get some high melt point tip top glue.  Also, on the crazy glue, IMHO, 5-min epoxy works better.  You have a longer work time and much, much easier to clean up.

For removing the tip, here is a little note that's always worked well for me.
