I've never used mono heavier than 12lb. In a Christmas grab bag I got a spool of 20lb. GrandSlam Mono. Other than use as a leader for C-rigs, I have no idea what to use it for. I was thinking topwater, but I'm sure it would limit the lure's action. Suggestions?

Just spooled a reel up for the first time with 20lb looking to try my hand at larger swim baits.

Use it to make a squarebill run very shallow. Around 1-2 ft. You could pitch with it. 

Swimbaits, Traps, wakebaits, square bills, large spook type lures, jigging spoons, (I ain't casting no small umbrella). That being said, I fish 12 and 15 most of the time.

I was thinking that there shouldn't be a lot of stretch to it and that would make it a decent choice for single hook applications. 

Would using it to get cranks to run shallower affect their action too much?

The amount of stretch in mono has been exaggerated!

I don´t know from where people believe that nylon stretches like if it were a friggin rubber band and made setting the hook decently an impossible task. Same applies for the floating capabilities of nylon, yeah right, like it float like a friggin cork.

It won't affect the action of a typical sized crankbait just the depth at which it runs. It would have an affect on a small crankbait but you won't be casting tiny cranks with 20 pound test. I throw virtually everything on Trilene XT 17 pound test mono (which actually breaks closer to 25 pounds).

Hi Seas Grandslam 20 lb copolymer is .017D according to TW.

If this line casts OK use for whatever you like, 1/2-1 oz crankbaits, spinnerbaits, top water lures, paddle tail type 6" swimbaits, night fishing with jigs and worms, frogs...lots of choices.

I flip with it still (20 to 30). I set the hook just fine. Nothing wrong with mono..there's something wrong with people who cry about mono though, lol.

You could run shallow cranks with it, it won't destroy your action, it will keep it up to some degree. As with all mono, it will absorb some water & actually will cast better..imo

H-Seas, the mfg, lists 20 pound test "monofilament" at .018" diameter. I suspect it is similar to Trilene XT, a fairly "fat" line that over-tests on break strength as the attributes they list: "high impact strength, excellent abrasion resistance and superior knot strength".

I'm an avid user of mono, so it's so called stretch is of no concern to me. It sounds to me as though this line is going to give me an alternative to braid for my single hook applications and it will also give me another option with many of the treble hooked ones as well 

luckily, on many of my reels the spools are interchangeable and I can keep one spooled with it.

I have only one baitcasting rig with braid. I still prefer mono for most of my setups. 20# is what I use on my trolling and catfish rigs. I have hung up with 30# braid and broke it off before I felt it should have. 20# mono has a lot of pulling power before it brakes and I just prefer it in most applications. But I am just a stubborn old wretched.

All kinds of good stuff really. Any bottom baits would be where is start. Jugs, t rigs, c rigs, and flipping baits. Also a nice deep cranking line for heavier lures. 20 lb is very versitle line

Well, if it helps in anything I have uprooted huizache and catnail brushes from the bottom with 17 lb Big Game. Tried to uproot a mesquite tree once but I think I was overestimating the power of 20 lb Big Game.

I like fat mono for big spinnerbaits, especially with the toothy critters around
