Featured Replies

what do you guys throw your squarebills on for line I fish I clear lake with a lot of rocks most of the time. I was thinking about just going with like 8 lb big game.. but also thoguth maybe braid with a mono leader. not really thinking I want to use fluoro but maybe you can talk me into it.

12lb izorline I wouldn't use 8lb for squarebills, especially around rock.

Pretty much the same line I use for practically everything: Berkley Trilene Big Game 10 lb test and up depending upon conditions.

Exactly what I use. Yo Zuri 12lb would be good too. Use the same thing for chatterbaits/spinnerbaits. 8lb might give you a headache, usually fishing squarebills around pretty gnarly stuff.

12lb Xxx = 17+ break strength

I'm now using izorline xxx on everything besides topwater. I love that stuff, cheap and just a great line.

I use Izorline 12-15 lb for pretty much everything except applications where braid is better suited. That stuff is amazing, cheap, and amazing.

The benefit of light line for cranks is added depth. Not really a concern here. I usually throw shallow cranks around cover so 14#> is usual.

PLine CXX, 10 - 12lb.  I catch tons of fish on square bills and CXX seems to be bomb proof.  Though CXX tends to closely match the water color where I fish - you might not get the same results in clear water...

30lb braid tied direct to the bait when fishing grass. I add a fluorocarbon leader when I am fishing wood, docks, or rocks.........or the pike are chomping. While not "bite off" proof, with a fluoro leader I least have a 50/50 chance of getting my bait back. When tied straight to the braid when the pike are active............well I might as well take a crank right out of the package and toss it into the bushes on the bank, at least I will know where it is.

10-12lb mono for me.

14lb Sunline Reaction Fluoro or Super Natural Mono

I like 14 lb. Gamma Copolymer around rocks and 12 or 14 Gamma Flourocarbon around grass, the fluoro helps ripping it through grass.

12 lb Big Game  , XL or XT .I use mono for everything . Right now its green  Big Game because I have big spools of it that has to be used .

Most of the time, I'm ripping squarebills through grass so I'm throwing 15 lb braid.  I know that seems light but it works and the small diameter braid cuts through the vegetation pretty well
