I'm looking to buy a new frog rod.  I am trying to decide between a Veritas conventional or a Veritas Micro guide.  The rod will be used primarily as a frog rod.  I must turn to your infinite wisdom as to which direction to take.

 

IMO it really just comes down to preference. I think that conventional guides are more durable and I can't stand to throw braid on micro guides so I would go with the conventional guides. But again, it really just comes down to what you like

Do you have cotton wood trees around the waters you fish? I do, and they are putting there "fuzz" on the water during the prime spring frogging season and will bind up micro guides tighter than a drum.............it's bad enough picking that crap off of the line, the reel level wind, and "regular" sized line guides. The rest of the year is no problem, but just because of that 3 week or so period in late spring/early summer around here with the cotton wood, I will NEVER EVER use a micro guide rod for frogging again.

If you are throwing into vegetation, micro guides gunk more easily.  I shy away having micro guides near grass and stuff that sticks to line when retrieving 

If your fishing slop with a frog or otherwise larger guides are the way to go. 

My personal preference are conventional guides. 

Larger guides for sure. I use a veritas for frogging and I replaced my microguide veritas for a standard due to clogged guides and braid wrapping issues. Probably the user but i seemed to have a lot of difficulties with the microguides in general.

I use both.  My main frog rod is a Micro rod, but then I also have a minima guide rod that I use as well which are a little smaller then standard but don't foul as easy as the micro's when it has a bunch of junk on the water.  Some days just prefer to use the ligher micro rod when it's a full day of frog fishing.  May not make a huge weight difference, but there is one there.

I've never had a problem using micro guides for frogging.  I would rather get that gunk stuck in the tip than possibly reeling into my reel.  I don't fish around a ton of cottonwood but it's never been a problem for me.

I have micro guides on my frog rod and haven't had any issues except around cottonseed but personally, I'd rather it jam up in the guides than make it all the way to my reel like with regular guides. 

If you happen to throw one in freezing conditions (unlikely with a frog) the micro eyes will also freeze up quickly as well. Had that problem with a duckett winter fishing.
