Eagle Claw Hooks

Featured Replies

I pour jigs and use Mustads, but can't help to notice the price of Eagle Claw hooks. Are they that bad? Anybody use them? I am considering switching if it is a decdent quality hook

Don't switch!

They are ok hooks but I think the points dull and bend over when bumped against stuff. I use Mustad Nor tempered  95% of the time, from my experience they just  stay sharper and are stronger. They are worth the extra money to me.

They couldn't put a hole in a balloon thats been blown up too big

I use them for personal use a lot. They are not tempered so they do bend/dull easier. I don't mind sharpening hooks though, I check them many times throughout the day no matter the brand. Eagle claws do have the biggest barbs on the market. All the others are smaller.

That being said. In my business I use all mustads or gammies if requested. Gammie gets a lot of hype and publicity, but I believe the Mustad is just as good of a hook and might be more durable than the gammie. I've broke a lot more gammies than mustads. The mustads will dull just as any hook, but will hold up better than eagle claws. I feel cofortable grabbing a jig, buzzbait, spinnerbait or whatever has a mustad it and throwing it without checking. They are to me the "best" hook for the price.

Stay with Mustad.

Eagle Claw makes a great hooks for bream and trot-lines.

I've had NUMEROUS problems with Eagle Claw hooks. Back in my walleye days, I used to always use their hooks for crawler harnesses.........never again. Too many rejects.

Just throwing this one out there... How about Trokar? They are made by Eagle claw and they are the best hook on the market. I also use Lazer sharp hooks by Eagle claw all i have to say is good things about them!  :)

I would have to disagree. Gamakatsu hooks are a lot better in my opinion.

Trokars seem to lose their sharpness fairly quickly.

Trokars are great hooks...until the point rolls on you after a fish or two....

I'll stick with using primarily Owner and some Gamakatsu hooks.

Never tried Owner. Are they better than Gamakatsus?

Yes and no. Owner cutting point hooks penetrate a little easier. The drawback is that they cut a larger hole in the fishes mouth. Gamakatsu's conical point takes a little more effort to penetrate, but they leave a smaller hole.

Personally, I like Owner's a little more.

Maybe I have just gotten lucky but I have used lots of Trokar hooks including drop shot (which in my opinion the point would roll on easier then the rest) None of these hooks have had the point roll, unless you are casting on the bank and dragging the bait to the water or regularly snagging trees and getting your bait back then the point usually doesn't roll.
