jig trailers

Featured Replies

i just started fishing jigs and i was wondering if the trailer has to be the exact same color as the jig

No! Use whatever you feel confident in. It might look better to us if the jig and the trailer have the same color but the fish sometimes want something different. Use your imagination! ;)

I don't think I have ever had the two the same color except for black/black. My rubber is not the same color of any trailers I can buy.

Here are a couple of my favorites.

My thought would be to match the colors pretty closly.  I think color is chosen largely based on water clarity. Thus I would want to take advantage of the jig and trailer both being the appropriate color for the water clarity being fished.

I'd have to go with what people said and try different combinations. When I look down in the water I see the sunfish/bluegill or what ever they are and they have like a bright colored tale that doesn't match.

well do you have any sugestions for a jig trailer color for the camo color

I don't think color matters nearly as much as people think. I would say size and the presentation are the most important. Usually I make the trailer match pretty closely with the jig but i have fished jigs with all sorts of colors and combinations and caught just as many fish if not more sometimes.

so do you want a big jig and big trailer  so it will be bigger or is it better smaller

I agree that color is on the bottom of the heap, but you've got to admit it's a great conversation piece ;D

Somewhere between the jig skirt and plastic trailer I make sure that I'm displaying BOTH a dark color and light color.

There is no way to know in advance what lighting conditions your lure will encounter, which may vary within the same retrieve.

For instance, the available light increases sharply as the lure is worked from deep water into shallow water.

Or, the sun is burning brightly when you make your cast, then about midway in your retrieve it goes behind a dark cloud.

Or, the lure lands alongside a piling in the shade of a dock, and then you drag into full sunlight....get my drift?

Camouflage is the color Cinnamon Pepper with red metal flake & the color June Bug which are laminated together. So either one of those colors will match as will a Peanut Butter & Jelly color.

I like to match them for some reason...Not to the exact color, but pretty darn close.
