Anyone using a crossbow for deer?

I'm just not into gun hunting as much as I used to be.

As a matter of fact I haven't hunted at all since I moved to Florida 11 years ago.

But along with bass itch come the hunting itch.

I have had two shoulder surgeries and arthritis in my hands so a compound bow is not working for me.

But I thought a crossbow would be a cool way to hunt.   All 'game of thrones' LOL

any suggestions from you xbowmen out there would be appreciated.

Still have to **** it, but a little easier with a cocking string with handles.  I like my excalibur, but I just got it and haven't used it on deer yet.  It is very simple (not compound) and is very tough as a result.  I've sighted it in and it is pleasant to fire.

Have had the Excalibur Matrix for 2 years and have got a deer each year.  Effective range is the same as a vertical bow.  Excalibur is a recurve type, so less to go wrong mechanically, you can easily change a string if needed and no need to shoot the arrow at the end of the day to unload, you can do this very easily with the rope aid.

I'm not saying this brand is the best, I just like it and I really like crossbows.

I just started deer hunting last year, on public land, and got an 8 pt buck at 40 yards with my crossbow.  I use a crank (not a manual draw), so I don't have to worry about shoulder problems.  It's my first crossbow, a Horton Storm RDX, it was extremely accurate out of the box.  Expensive (1200), but crazy accurate and quiet.

Crossbows are gaining in popularity big time.  More states are making them legal during deer season and some even allow them during "archery" season.  They're way more like a short range gun (with a scope/trigger) than they are like a compound bow.  I think pretty soon they'll be legal in every state in some way, shape, or form.  I was going to suggest the Storm RDX too but the price tag is a little steep.  Barnett and Ten Point both make some more reasonable entry level models that are worth looking at.

Very noobish qeustion, but whats better? A crossbow or a normal bow? I see very much lvl 70's walk with normal bows, and i dont see much with crossbows.. Sorry for grammar, im not English native :)

Really loaded question as to which one is "better."

A crossbow is easier to use and doesn't require any practice.  A compound bow requires regular practice and its more difficult to be accurate with.  Think of a crossbow as a short-range gun; you simply put the cross hairs on the target and pull the trigger.  Its very easy to use and be accurate almost right out of the box.  But bear in mind that not every state allows the use of a crossbow during their archery season either.  Check your state's hunting regulations for the laws associated with this.

My Excalibur Matrix 330 has put 40+ deer in the freezer over the years, and several on the wall. Super accurate, dead simple, easy to **** and decock with the rope cocker, and durable. Nothing I don't like about it. It's paid for itself many times over in meat. Excalibur smoked this guy at 30yds in 2020. It ain't the fanciest or fastest out there, but it kills'em dead year after year. thumbnail.thumb.jpeg.c53f2e576100e5155241703236b2f6f6.jpeg
