I have a 2001 Ranger R83 w/ a Mercury 175. A "chrping" sound is coming from the dash when the motor is in gear. I know there are warnings for differnt components. I can not find a description of the warning in any of the books/manuals I have. Does any have any information about the "chirping"?

Have you checked the oil level in the tank on the motor? There is a chance it might be low.

Might be a number of things including a faulty alarm module.  Check your oil level watch your temp if you have a temp gage or if you can't find the problem take it in for service.

Speed/Tach cable could be the issue... My Speed -O-Meter cable in my 68 El-Cameno made a chirping noise months before it finally broke..

I would just take it to a good shop. With motors being as expensive as they are these days, there is no sense in risking it.

I agree with JT. With the cost of these boats and motors, unless you know take it to a pro.

The water & oil alarms are in the console. I have a 150 xr6. If the horn sounds continuously it indicates the engine is over heating. Check the "P" hole to make sure you are pumping water. Your water pump impeller should be replaced every year. If you have not done that I would.

If the horn sounds intermittent, short beeps you have low oil level in the oil system.

Power heads are expensive so I would take to a dealer .

I know on an EFI system the are more alarms & I don't know about them.

The "P" hole?!?  HA...you think they could think of a better name for the hole.
