Buzz bait color

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've been tearing them up on a buzz bait as a result the one I've been using is beat up.  So I'm stocking up on a few more war Eagles and was just curious what colors work the best and when?  Also when is a good time to throw the black color?

Do yourself a favor and buy some Megastrike Cavitron Buzzbaits.  They are the best ones out there.  When you take it out of the package use some pliers to crimp the rivet piece at the bottom of the blade.

As far as color.... black on black.  It's the only one I use.  I throw it all the time there is a top water bite.

black, white or chartreuse are all i use

I pretty much throw Black on Black Cavitrons about 95% of the time. Sometimes, especially in the fall, I'll use a small 1/8 chartreuse buzzbait on a shallow river for smallmouth, but that's the only time I do.

I use lots of colors . Caught lots of bass on all of them . Back when they came with the 40 strand skirt , yellow and black produced real well .

Saved a lot of bad days with the Cavitron 1/8 oz black/black on a spinning rod with 20# braid. If I'm fishing reeds or other above water vegetation where getting hung is an issue, I throw the D&M Buzz Saw in Black Widow/Black since it is weedless.

You can fish any color so long as it's black. JK, but back is hard to go wrong with. A white one is good if they are chasing baitfish on the surface.

Of all the ones I have FISHED, I like the cavitrons the best. But I did pick up 2 of those war eagle ones you are talking about over the winter and I must say, out of the package they look awesome. I'm a big fan of their spinnerbaits so I expect their buzzbaits will be good too. Whether they will edge out the cavitrons I don't know. No time on the water with them yet.

I won't second-guess the black cavitron consensus.

Where I fish in GA the bass love both the 1/2 oz chartreuse on chartreuse blade buzzbaits, and also brown and blue "bluegill" color baits.

I've been using the inexpensive Strike King "banshee" buzzbaits sold at DSG and they seem to do well for me: they squeak like crazy, never fail to turn properly, and seem to have good hardware.  Most importantly, the bass love them.
