Lost my spool tension knob while fishing. Is there any way I can make one myself, I don't want to spend 11 dollars on a new one. I have the Quantum Smoke PT 151

It'd probably be pretty hard to find or make your own spool tension knob. Most reels are made overseas, which use metric measurements, and in my experience a nightmare to find knobs of any kind in metric sizes that will fit a reel. Additionally, they're usually pretty small threads, not ones commonly found. 

So overall, it'd be hard to do. Probably eventually you could find one, or if you're a machinist you could make one given that you know the threads and pitch needed, but you probably couldn't make it for $11

Personally I would just buy the replacement. Besides, it'll be a perfect fit, paint will match, finish will match and that's too nice of a reel to have stuff that doesn't match - they're sweet looking reels.

Heck I'm not sure cheap is even the right word here. 

not without spending $11+ in DIY materials, and that's if you could do it!  just suck it up, spend the $11 and consider it a lesson learned.

Sure you can. Anyone can do anything if they try hard enough. Heck drive to the closest store go to the toothpaste buy one with the cap size that is close. Go home put saran wrap on the toothpaste screw the cap on reel. May need to trim the cap with a box knife to shorten it a little. Take a black sharpie to it. Now your done.

Now your out about $5 in fuel, wear on your tires, saran wrap, sharpie ink, and wear off the bottom of your shoes soles. And your reel looks like crap. But hey you might have saved $3 to $5 bucks and you have some toothpaste.  

If it tries to come off just use a few of those dollars you saved on some gorilla glue and fill that cap and jam it back on wait a day or two it should be good to go then.

Suck it up, pay the $11 so you can go back to throwing you h20 xpress baits

Sure would like to know the guy suggesting you steal one, so I could make sure he's not near my boat at the launch.  I think the only reasonable chance for avoiding cost here is to see if one from your old reels might work.  Keep in mind that the cap is designed to apply an axial load to the end of the spool, so the details of its shape are important.  Some have a "spring washer" in them to soften up the application of the force.  Do it right and replace with OEM.

It was funny as heck.  I always walk around WM seeing reels with missing tension knobs haha.
