new to bass resource

Featured Replies

55 years young and just returned to fishing after a 7-8 year hiatus (doing a lot of big game hunting)

love to bass fish, as well as trout, steelhead , and salmon. but bass fishing is my passion.

One of my 17 year old Quantum baitcasters bit the dust, so I went out to buy a new one.

Holy cow !! prices have skyrocketed, but the level of quality of manufacturing has improved,

so good trade-off I suppose. So I picked up an Abu Garcia - Pro Max 3, and a Black Max 3.

I'm a working man (not rich) so bargain reels will have to do.  Any way wanted to know about

braided lines. Will they benefit and are they worth the expense? Thanks to all who participate.

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

I use Braided lines for a few applications - The strength & no stretch properties come in very handy.

Bass Resource has a great articles section that does include a ton of information on using & selecting the appropriate line for bass fishing.

Check it out.

Thanks for all the "warm welcomes" I really appreciate it. I live in western Washington and seldom see bass over 4 lbs.

I currently run 14# -15# test on my jig and worming rigs and 10# - 12#  test on my spinnerbait / cranking rigs (all 6 are baitcasters).

I run 8# test on my finesse rigs (2 spinning), I have never used anything but "mono" on everything, so I just wondering about braids.

Welcome to the forum, and happy fishing :):)
