Help me decide on spinning reel!

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a Lew's Custom Lite 7' med extra fast rod and need to pair it up with a reel for finesse usage. There are tooooooo many to decide. What would you pair it with?

$200 or less, preferably less is about all I want to invest in a decent reel.

Pflueger presidents, shimano sienna are great and cheap. For 200 id get a stradic

For that price I would check out the shimano stradic or sephia. the stradic might be a little over budget but its definetly a good reel. Also check out the abu Garcia revo and orra

Pflueger all the way, get yourself either a president, president LE, or the supreme xt you don't be disappointed.

Take your rod in to a local shop (BPS, Cabelas, etc.)
and ask to put each reel on it you are interested in.

Despite quality of all the above reels, you may feel
one is a better fit in your hands than another.

My experience was this. I was set on a Pflueger, but
ended up going with a Stradic. The Pflueger is a great
reel, but it just didn't feel right in my hands.

So asking us what is best is subjective as best.

Brands to consider: Okuma, Pflueger, Diawa, Quantum,
Shimano, etc.

FWIW. What I think is best, may not be best for you.

Pflueger supreme or supreme xt

Team Lew's GoldSpin in the best I've used, it's something like $120 I believe.

TW has a Lew's Team Gold Carbon on sale for 80.00.

Shimano Stradic. Check out the FK and the CI4.

I recently replaced my Lews Tournament Pro Speed Spin with a Team Lews Pro Speed Spin and absolutely love it. Buttery smooth and feels great in my hand.

It's a looker too. I'm tossing around the idea of putting it on a medium tatula rod, which I think will compliment it nicely in the aesthetic department.

Pfluegar Supreme XT or an Okuma RTX

I've had an XT for about 4 years now, at least, and it's holding up great.

Only the 35 size. Too lg for what want it for. Good price though.

I agree with putting one on your rod to see how it feels and balances. To me this will increase your satisfaction with the reel you buy.  Out of all of my spinning reels,  I love my old shimano stradics the most .. One of which I use regularly that is now 14 years old. It is my absolute favorite spinning reel of all time. Otherwise I've been getting into the penn reels on the spinning side and I am loving the new Penn battle for 99 bucks. It's a great feel for its price.

I absolutely feel my stradic doesnt do anything better than my president. My president sure click bail is better than the bail system on my stradic. I have a Supreme XT too but only paid $75 for it new not sure I would pay full price for that given how well I like the president. Just not much distinction between spinning reels to me for justification to spend $$$ for higher priced ones.

I would take a look at the revo Stx and also the stradic fk and pick which one you like best. I think TW has a demo program that might be worthwhile.
