Curado 50e for $120 - Yes or No

Featured Replies

I came across a Shimano Curado 50e for sale... heres the catch, for $120.

Is this a good deal? Its in very good condition from a very trusted seller I know. (its not on ebay in-case you are wondering)

It even has the box and papers!

I just want to know if its a good idea to pick this up for $120. Thanks

Yes, that is a great deal. The 50E is a very popular reel and people are willing to pay 150 for it.

Despite the guy in the fleamarket trying to sell his for 300 brand-new, 120 is not a super deal but its good. These were clearance for $100 I want to say five or six years ago. They go for around 150 on average right now

If it's a reel you have a use for that's not a bad deal.

Although cleared out for $98, I don't consider that to be the true value of the reel.  I believe they sold for $200 new.  So AFAIC that is a good deal.  I've got two of the 51Es.  I think you will like the reel.

Buy it before he changes his mind about selling it. Any E series reel is going for a premium right now.

Nowadays that's a good deal.  I've been seeing $150-200 depending on condition.   Great reels.

Yeah, I have a 50E I modded and thought about selling it, but just cant.  Those are great reels!  That sounds like a good deal to me.

Well, I have the 50E  super-tuned and in PERFECT condition.  With upgrades I consider this reel to be comparable to my Core 50Mg7. It is not for sale, but if it were I would ask $225, firm. I suggest buying the reel and sending it to DVT for service and upgrades (Carbontex brakes and Boca bearings).

:love7:

Is this reel any good for heavy applications such as frogging / flipping and pitching? I know its a finesse oriented reel, but its still a curado and I wonder if it would hold up to the task of heavy cover. I had a 200e7 I used for this a while back and absolutely loved it, but had to sell it, now they go for way too much for me lol

It is a misconception that it is a finesse reel.  The only thing you may have a problem is line capacity.  I've used it for pitching in heavy cover, no issues.  It is just like the 200 size just less line capacity.

Anyone have issues with the line capacity? Do you think I might? I never get past half a full spool of 12lb test mono on my Speed Spool if that gives you a reference :P, but I would like to use 30lb braid on the 50e.

Yeah I saw that, I winced.  I'll never buy it at that price.  In fact I wouldn't buy any of the 50Es even at the average sell price lately.  I'd rather just buy the Curado 70s.

^ yeah, good point.   My 50E is now a 7 to 1 with a 100mm Hawtech handle, bearings, and supertuned by DVT, but at the $$ I sunk into it, get a Curado 70, or something along those lines.

Those reels sell for about $150 in very good condition and $200 in like-new condition, so $120 is a good deal, even if you need to send it off for servicing.

Hmm... maybe there are comparable reels for around $120? maybe even used?

Not sure you'll find as small a reel as the 50e
for $120. I have the Chronarch 50e and it is
quite awesome.

Ive bought all of the 51e's I've owned for $100-130 and sold them for the same price (only for other projects/interests) . Definitely my favorite reels/size I've fished with.

$120 is a good price.

So $300 for a NIB one is stupid but there are people paying over retail for NIB Chronarch 50E's apparently.

I have loaded 225' 30# Gamma Torque braid on my 50E with around 100' of 6# mono backing if my memory is correct.

... this reel is becoming very attractive now...

My favorite platform.  I have two curado 50e, a Scorpion, and Chronarch.  Love em.  Dead simple, reliable, never have to worry about them.

I really think you should just buy it.  If you don't like it, sell it for 150.  Done.

Aww I tried buying it, but it got sold a couple weeks ago but they didn't delete the listing, got my hopes all up!
