Curado 70 vs Curado 50E

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have both reels, but am considering returning the Curado 70 and purchasing another 50E or a Scorpion XT1000. Which reel do you guys prefer and why?

I just got a Curado 70 and have been fishing 50 series reels for the last few years.

The 70 has taken a little time to get used too.  I started with the braking too low and spool too loose and kept backlashing, I think I've finally found settings that work.

My biggest issue with the reel was the knobs, I have the large septon knob on all of my reels and don't think the new curado knob are very comfortable, I removed those and installed the larger knob and bearings and it's made a huge difference.

I'd give the curado 70 some time, I think it's a sweet little reel, just a little different than the set it and forget it of the e series.

Across the board I like the E series. The I is a good reel but more different than better compared to the E

This a great reel. In have two and they are capable and reliable for anything between 3/16 to 3/4 oz... Normal bass lure weights...

You have a lot of upgrade options two from gears to spools and much more.

I almost in the same boat as you. I have curado 70hg and a brand new chronarch 50e coming in a few week. I have been using 70 hg for a month and like it a lot. It was hard to cast at first with lite lure but after awhile and all adjustment done, it casts like a dream, still got bird nest once awhile though. Too bad, my cousin bought that 50e before I got a hand on this 70hg otherwise I would op. for a second 70hg or even xg instead. I might even sell that brand new chronarch 50e since I asked my sister to look for scorpion 70  for me on her trip to japan next month.

I liked the 70 way better than the 50's. The 50's are tiny and my hands would start to hurt from holding onto them for very long. The 70 seems to be just a tad bit bigger or something so it fits my hands much better. Little things like that are the exact reason why it pays to hold a reel in your hand if possible before buying instead of taking someone else's advice on which is the best. Doesn't matter how nice a reel is, if it's not comfortable to you to fish with, you won't use it. I sold all my 50's because of it.

^ This is great advice. I always like to try the reel at a store too. It always comes down to what feels best for you.

My new chronarch 50e arrived today, will try first thing in the morning. I hope you right about smaller size, I got small hand so smaller is good sign. This reel will replace my Curado 100d place where I use for jig and other thing.
