Stop Abrasion Fishing A Bullet Weight?

Featured Replies

What are some ways to stop abrasion on flouro while fishing a bullet weight? I have been snapping off many fish lately because of abrasion. How can I stop/lessen abrasion on my line? Thanks

If its lead... the hole is usually collapsed a little. So I take a pocket knife, insert it in the hole then gently spin the weight to make the hole circular again. The tip is usually where. The abrasions  come from. Tungsten. ..no insert? Insert? Never really had a problem with tungsten. I kno videos on youtube where guys make their own inserts.

Tungsten I use inserts, lead I carry a small needle nose pocket file that slides into most weight sizes and file it back a bit after use.

Tungsten I generally don't have any issues. Are you fraying the line or is the knot breaking from the weight hitting it over and over? I sometimes will put a bobber stop right snug up to the knot if I feel it might get damaged.

Just switch to a quality tungsten weight.

if lead, take a toothpick or something like that and kind of bore out the hole a little bit.

How about using beads that keep the weight away from the knot?.  The knot is swallowed by the hole in the bead, the weight never touches the knot, the bead stops on the eye of the hook, so doesn't damage the knot either.

I highly doubt your bullet weight is causing enough abrasion to cause line failure.

One reason I don't like fluorocarbon is poor abrasion residence.

I've always heard that fluorocarbon has better abrasion resistance than braid or mono
