Rod for dragging jigs 10-20 ft water

Featured Replies

I have a 7mh crucial, but I'm looking for something a little longer, was thinking champion 744, not sure though. Wouldn't mind trying a fury out for price, but seems it will be hard to stray from champions.

Will be throwing 1-2 to 3/4oz football jigs and maybe some wrecking balls thanks!

You could look at the Dobyns Savvy Micro series. Take a look at the  SSM735C it might meet your needs better than the Fury.  Go to Dobyns site click on rods, then click on the Savvy Micro rods. If you then click on the SSM 735C it says it works with frogs, flippin, pitchin, small swim baits,, and the for secondary techniques it says big jigs and carolina rigs. The price is $179.  That would be my second choice behind the Champion series. One nice thing with a Champion XP is they sell the exact same rod as a split handle rod with cork and another full handle cork rod depending on what your preference is.  That Champion is $260 so the heart and wallet will have to argue about the extra $80.  That dang bait monkey is smiling isn't he?

i caled dobyns just last week or maybe the week before and spoke with the guys for this exact same set up they suggested a 744 now whether you go champ or champ extreme is totally up to you

i'd try to catch a champion extreme 784ml used, great dragging rod

Take a look at ALX Dragger for this application.

Tom

PS, I have no affiliation with ALX rods, they are state of the art at reasonable prices, good customer service and warranty.

I really like the Powell 734..If you have more room in the budget the Cara Amistad is a great 5/8-3/4oz. football head rod.

I really like the Phenix M1 7'2" Heavy extra fast.

The Champion XP744C was developed for that application.  I myself use the DX784ML but the XP was not yet available when I picked it up.. Sorry, mine's not for sale.

Check out the Fenwick Aetos, on sale right now for $95!

I do also have a kistler argon 7'1 worm and jig rod, what are your thoughts on that?
