Baitcasting rod suggestion

Recommended Posts

I throw 4 inch Texas-rigged Pit Boss and Smokin' Roosters a lot on the edges of weeds, pads, etc.  I have a different rod to flip directly into heavy cover, but I'm looking for suggestions on a second mid-priced baitcasting rod to cast T-rigs on and around the weed edge.  Looking for suggestions on length/power/action more than brand but open to any/all suggestions.   Thx...

I throw mine on either a 6'8" or 7'1" mh extra fast depending on whether I'm trying to cast really accurately or casting for distance

What is your budget? What length do you enjoy using. I have three rods I like for doing this.  The first is a Powell Max683, it is a  6'8" mh fast action  baitcasting rod. That rod is as versatile rod I have ever owned.  My second is Quantum Escalade 6'6" medium fast action spinning rod, and for grass and docks in tight corners I love my G Loomis IMX 6' Medium spinning rod. Of course I have a 7'3 Heavy rod for punching mats and a 7 foot MH xf for heavier baits in and around heavier cover. It specs 1/4 to 1 1/2 ounce baits, I love it for carolinas and hvy t rigs stuff.

Budget is approx $100-150.  Thinking in the range of a 7 foot MH Fast action, but am open to suggestions and recommendations - thanks

In your price range, I really like the Abu Ike series rods. 7' with a fast action. Choose your power depending on what size weight you plan on using.

Take a look at an Irod Genesis II model IRG703C, it is 7 foot MH Fast action rod that rates 3/16 to 3/8 and 6 to 12 pound line.  Next look at the IRG704C, it is a 7 foot Heavy rating from 1/4 to 1 1/4 and 10 to 20 pound line. Finally my best suggestion, I think,  ( it is so close to my Powel Max 683 which I love) is an Irod IRG693C “Harold’s Lone Star Special”. This rod is so similiar to my Powell which is why I like the feel of it. It is 6"9 and is considered medium heavy fast action. It rates 3/16 to 1/2 and 6 to 12 for lines.  Irod produces very lightweight and well balance rods with good quality components.  I belong to The Bass College and Steve the owner is friends with the owner of Irod. Each year he would take orders and put in one big order with them. There are probably a couple of dozen members all fishing Irods.  I bet Steve ordered at least a hundred rods over the past 3 years and I never heard anyone complain about them. I personally own and regularly fish with 2 of their rods, both for other techniques. These rods retail for $149 from Tackle Warehouse.

That is one of my favorite rigs right there in the Okeechobee craw color.  A Dobyns Fury 734C at 109 bucks is very hard to beat.  The new Sierra Series is replacing the Savvy series and  was upgraded to Fuji guides better cork and the blanks, all though having the same action, incorporate a better quality of graphite. They might be just a smidge faster than the Fury.   I'd throw those two models in the hat.
