The Rod Holder struggle

Featured Replies

Got my rig in the water and it's been great, 16 foot 1998 PolarKraft semi V in my local electric only lake with a Minn kota 80LB transom.

I'm really not wanting to drill into the boat for rod holders but i do need a bunch for trolling and so forth, this boat has the double gunnels running around so the side clamp on holders isn't really a option due to needing the 3 inch mouth,

Any Ideas or suggestions? Atm i'm thinking about just using some Azax board with 100% silicone to secure some Scotty power lock rod holders. Even though its well above the water line i hate running holes through my boat, what do you guys think~

Atwood or RAM rod holders require screws, no reason to run the screws through the boats outside gunnel, mount them inside.

I had a similar problem on my new bass boat this spring.  I couldn't find an option for rod bases/holders without drilling holes so I scrapped it.  I realized that I would only use them about 3 times all season (and I fish about 30 times a season) so it wasn't worth it.

I installed 2 rod holders in the rear deck area side mounts on the inside gunnel for son when he was a pre teen fishing with in my Skeeter bass boat. You would need to look for the mounting brackets when the rod holders were stored and not being used. I did this so my son could put his rod in a holder when he didn't feel like holding the rod anymore, kids get bored and need a break. He would cast and drag a split shot rigged worm, put his rod in the rod holder a fool around with whatever he wanted to do like eat and he would say dad get the net!

Cisco or Bert's. track systems You permanently attach tracks to the gunwales or decks and you can add/remove rod holders etc.

They make rod holders that mount to your boat cleats and ones that go in the seat pedestal holes. I've been looking into the ones for the rod holders for my boat for when I want to fish for catfish, wipers, or walleye.

Ah ok cool some good ideas guys. appreciate it

PS: Yeah i've already got some PVC homemade rod holders for storage reasons but due to the placement and angle can't use them with lines in the water for trolling / drifting etc

I'll check out the ones that mount to cleats but if they dont work maybe i can try mounting them to the interior center console + storage boxs or a big ass cooler, hate putting holes in the boat

Why the aversion to putting holes in the boat?
