rod for light hard swimbaits

Recommended Posts

Ive been throwing small hard swimbaits like the BBZ-1 four inch (1oz) more often this year and I am currently using a GLX 844. This winter I'd like to buy a rod that is ideal for 1-1.5 oz swimbaits. I'd like to get a "light" weight swimbait rod as I wont be using it to toss 3oz swimbaits. i dont mind spending a little more money for extra sensitivity and low weight.

If price/value wasnt an issue, whats your ideal 1.5oz swimbait rod?

Thanks!

Take a look at the Dobyns Champion HP  DC794SB.  It's rated for 1 to 3 ounce baits and 12 to 25 LB test lines.  Another option is the DC764C. That's the model my buddy uses for the lure category you are mentioning. Dobyns has about 8 or 9 SB models and the 794 seems to be a fit for what you are looking at.  Hope this helps.

I don't use a swimbait rod for smaller baits like that. The rod I use is only a MH/MF 7' 2" with 15lb Big Game.

For baits that are a little larger I'll switch to a Dobyn's Fury 795.

Thanks for the replies!

Would anyone recommend anything from the Megabass line? This rod will be mostly used for 1-1.5oz hard swimbaits and soft paddletail swimbaits on 1oz jigheads.

I use a 7'2" MH/F BPS Johnny Morris signature for that stuff. It has a really long handle section for a rod of that length so you can tuck it like a big swimbait rod.
