The hooks usually aren't so great.. but. It can not be beat in its price range IMO. This exact model saved me from a skunk 2 weeks ago. When I couldn't get anything going on plastics, a chartreuse model 5a managed to hook 3. None were more than 2lbs but i was so happy I decided to give it a chance.

I counted all my Bomber models A cranks which include 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A and the Deep Flat A and I have 74 total. All of my Bomber model A cranks came with a bronze TX3 hook, they last a season and then need to be replaced but they are as sharp as you will find and with a cranking rod the hooks seldom will bend out. Those hooks have a little bend that Excalibur use to call the rotating treble and trust me, those hooks need pliers to remove almost 100% of the time unless you barely hook the fish and manage to land it. Some anglers mistake bronze hooks to mean poor quality or dull, that isn't always the case, Mann's uses an Eagle Claw Laser Sharp hook on the 1 minus series as well as the Baby X, they are bronze but not the ordinary Eagle Claw hooks most think of, the Laser Sharp models in my opinion are better than Mustads, and I like Mustad hooks. So if you have or are going to buy some Bomber cranks and you see they have the rotating trebles in bronze, try them out before thinking they aren't good, you may be surprised.

I didn't say they were bad..  just said they aren't so great. I wasn't that impressed by the hooks. But usually when a bass bites something with 6 points I usually am able to bring it In.. 

All in all bomber and rapala are the only cranks I use. I like the VMC hooks alot. And sometimes switch and put a sureset model on some of my shallow bomber cranks. I know some people don't like them. But for me, it's not about what other people like. 

For the most part I change out the treble hooks to the KVD Elite Treble Hooks for my "Bomber 5A and 6A Crankbaits". They have an extra-short shank, wide gap and “Triple Grip” design. The shorter shanks allow me to “upsize” the hook for a bigger bite. Mustad's 1X wire delivers an optimal balance of power and flex, and the shorter length of the Short Shank design also allows anglers to use larger hooks, further increasing hooking potential (i.e. you can replace a stock Size 4 hook with the KVD (Size 2). These hooks are a easy upgrade to any stock treble. They are sharp, strong and really improve your hook-ups. The fish stay hooked just make sure you have your drag set up correctly and having a rod for Crankbaits doesn't hurt either.

"No" these companies aren't paying me or giving me any products. I don't work for or am I sponsored by any company. The "Partial Quotes" that I use are for clarity and not for sponsor purpose. I use them so some of the information is as close to accurate as possible. LOL

I use the Bomber 7A, very similar to Norman DD14, the right size and running depth for the lakes I fish.

It's hard to think of a more biased source for product quality info than the manufacturers own promotional material lol.

I agree with @smalljaw67 about the stock TX3 hooks; they are solid.  It seems like the only time I bend them is when I get impatient with the pliers (maybe they hold too well ) 

 

Been useing Bomber's A crank and Long A jerk bait for years and never changed a hook.  Never had the need

Google brought me here once again.

A long time ago in the fall, four of us went fishing in two boats. Me and the guy I was fishing with had zero bass after several hours. We met up with the other two and they said they were catching fish on a Bomber Model A. They tried other cranks but only the Model A was getting bit. I went to a bridge and started throwing cranks, Rapalas, Rebels, Normans, Bagleys... determined to catch something. Finally, after switching to a Model A, I began to catch bass. To this day , the Model A is usually the first crank I try in the fall.

Well since we’re talking about Bomber baits, I have a couple dozen of the 1/8 ounce crankbait, those things are killer good & always have been. The new ones are just as good if not better. I actually got on the Long A for a year or so & done good enough but I’m a LC Pointer 100 guy.. the cast ability of the pointer is key for me..

I'm not surprised. Model A's have an aggressive wiggle that is different. 4A is a good Bandit 200 alternative.

Pradco has done a really good job re-invigorating the Bomber line up of cranks and Long A’s. Over the last couple of years

I like the old smallmouth bass pattern which they dont make anymore. Brown crawfish is the closest they make currently .

Somehow these still aren't expensive on the used market. I got a bunch of rough ones this fall with the intent to paint them colors that work in my local waters. I recently soda blasted all the paint off and am awaiting warm enough weather to paint.
