BPS speed shad

Recommended Posts

I have an option to get about 15 packs of these cheap. I did good on the keitechs this past season..  and if these preform I'll grab these and dump the keitech! Any input or success stories would be appreciated.

I have used the BPS versions for about a year now and they have become my go-to swimbait.  The 3" & 4" models work well on my lake.  I fish them on an exposed jig head (Picasso Smart mouth), I don't have a need for them to be rigged weedless.  Although I have thrown the Keitechs a couple times, i didn't use those enough to notice if there was a difference between them.

If you can pick them up cheap, do so. If you don't like them you really are not out of anything. The plus side is if you like them, you have a new bait

I want to know if they are as good as the keitech or are worth purchasing... I'd really appreciate success stories

If you're fishing them really slow, they aren't as good as Keitech, but they're a good bait that is worth purchasing for a good price. I bought a bunch this past spring when they were on sale and they've been a good bait as a stand alone or a trailer.

The Rage Swimmer is great, right there with the Keitech, plus you get 1 more bait in a pack.

So do you ever find yourself reaching for the speed shad? Or is it just something you tried and had moderate success with

It's usually the first one a reach for. If I can get away with fishing a cheaper bait, that's what I'm going with. Sometimes they want the bait super slow or a bait with more wag, that's when I have to go with the Keitech or Rage Swimmer.

Can't you just soften (heat) the tail shaft a bit to get the BPs to run slower?

Speedshad aren't nearly as soft and don't have the same slow shimmy.  Good on a scrounger or chatterbait.

agree with above, they aren't as soft as Keitechs...I will reach for Keitechs first and only use the BPS speed shads when I get into a Stripers bite.  Stripers aren't as picky as LMB and the Speed Shads seem a little more durable.

Maybe, but I'm not going to bother with it, I'll just switch to the better bait.

Get away with?  Love hearing guys talk like this.  What could you get away with on your recent tourney at LOZ?

They are all just lures; some harder and some softer plastics than others.  Doesn't make them better or worse than any other bait.  Use what you have confidence in, regardless if you get one more bait per pack or if they are a forum sponsor.

I usually get some when I am at Bass Pro, which hasn't been too often this year. I like them a lot, no complaints.

i used them for the majority of my swimjig and chatterbait trailers this year and they worked well for me the only thing i have to say is that i would stick with the basic colours, i was definitely not a fan of the male perch colour as it was upside down (green should be up top). I would also add some scent to them as they didn't really have much of their own

I could get away with using the cheaper option, which is what I did at LOZ. In fact, I used the same Speed Shad on one of my homemade bladed jigs without a skirt the entire time. My BIL fished a S.I. Fat and it didn't seem to get anymore bites, so I was getting away with the Speed Shad and saving a few pennies. I'm just like most guys, I don't do this for a living and pay for everything out of pocket with what expendable income I have, so I'm looking to save money where I can.

I've never felt like using one of the premium ribbed swimbaits was a worse option than the cheaper versions as far as number of bites. I have 100% confidence there are situations when one of the softer baits got me more bites than the Speed Shad though.
