What would you guys suggest for pitching jigs and texas rigs.  Go with straight fluoro probably 18-20lb test or go with 50lb braid to 20lb fluoro leader for this technique?  Mainly pitching docks, laydowns, reeds, sparse vegetation.  All the heavy vegatation flipping/pitching ill be doing with my flipping stick and 65lb braid.

I like a line like PLine Floroclear which is a copoly with a fluoro coating, but I have one reel with P Line Halo in 10 pound test and it works nice . As with any fluorocarbon stretch it out sometimes and use conditioner.  Something like Reelsnot works good.

Personally, I'd go straight fluoro in that example...

Straight up 20lb Seaguar Fluoro Flippin' line is what I use for those exact situations.  Works great!

For my jig/t-rig reel I have two spools. One with 40lb braid, the other with 16lb Sniper Fluoro. I can switch them out on the go depending on the conditions I run into. 

Clear water? You know the answer, but anything else, I'd go straight braid. Like others her, I don't overly concern myself with line visibility. My norm is 30lb. because of the diameter.

I don't use leaders at all any more.

It's either Braid or P-line CX on my reels. P-Line for open very clear water or a particular type bait whether it be hard or soft in any water. When I'm in mildly or darker stained water or heavy cover looking for lunkers it's strait braid.

I am in the straight flouro club here too. 16# sniper for me. 

Yeah, another vote for straight flouro, but back your reel with braid first so you are fishing a liberal top-shot of flouro.

Sorta what I do.  I do use braid but I also use a Flouro "leader" of about 20 ft.  This is mostly because I fish a lake with a LOT of submerged timber that is also pretty clear.  I get the clarity of flouro but can also break it off if I need to.

Yeah, I hear ya. My basic rule of thumb is to fill the reel with enough braid to where when I top shot it so I cant cast to the knot after several reties throughout the day. It will take a few trips and then when I'm able to cast down to the knot I basically know its time for a fresh top-shot.

I've heard if you wrap braid around the spool a few times before tying it that it won't split. Maybe some of the guys could confirm if that's true or not.

Do you mean slip?  If so the answer is no.  You need tape or a few wraps of mono to keep the braid from slipping.  Some reels have braid-ready spools.

Preferences

Crystal Clear water - Straight Fluoro

Every other type of water - Straight Braid

 

BUT considering you won't be fishing heavy cover, you could get away with straight fluoro no matter what.

I like a fluoro leader with heavier braid. Maybe confidence but I seem to get better results.
