Berkely Lightning rod

Featured Replies

thinking about picking up a Berkely Lightning casting rod. Anyone have any thoughts about them?

Take a look at the Berkley Lightning Shock rods too. My wife and I both fish a couple of these. We use the medium moderates in 6'6  for throwing rattle traps while chasing stripers in the fall. They would throw small to mid sized crankbaits, rattle traps, and square bills.

Good beginner rod for topwater and moving baits.

I'm not a beginner but I still use two of these for moving baits. I have a 6-6 MH and a 6-6 M as well as a newer spinning 7' M. I'll replace them at some point but they're tough and light and get the job done. The cork on the foregrips is starting to come apart  on the casting rods after 10 years of heavy use.

They are all you you really need. I've evolved to enjoy some really nice equipment but looking back on all the rods that I own and have owned..... Some of the absolute biggest bass of my life were caught on these, with a lot of good memories as well.

My ONLY gripe with them, ( I have a couple at our vacation spot) is that I've seen a couple reels seats break. But i don't know what one would/should expect for the price tag.

Great rods for the money. I bought a few of the Shocks for $17 apiece this winter. Haven't used them much yet but they've been nice so far.

Lighting Rods are great for bottom contact techniques

I have owned several, still do with no complaints.

I have had problems with the reel seat on one of my lightning rods. I tightened it and the cork cracked. It seems to be real thin at that location.

For the price, they're decent rods. I used to have one and it wasn't the best rod I've ever owned, but it did everything I asked of it and was nicer than other rods in that price range.
