Crankin Rap Discontinued

Featured Replies

The shallow Rapala Crankin Raps (size 03 and 05) deserve credit for being the lures that really got me into bass fishing after a long fishing hiatus.

I got some extra cheap back in 2015, and they were my go-to bait in 2015 and early 2016.

I believed that they were being discontinued, because they show up in clearance sales and discount Rapala boxes.

Just saw on the Rapala website that they are officially "discontinued."

I'm wondering if anyone else will miss the crankin Rap?

So are youbuying them up ? I use them a lot . Shallow diving to the CR14 . I'd like to find some on clearance . I would stock up .

The CR14     caught a couple hundred fish  or so for me last year . They dive quick  , great lures to use on points .

I already have last year.  I mentioned once before that I hold North America's strategic Crankin Rap reserve.

I did not do that knowing they'd actually be discontinued.

I mostly have accumulated shallow firetiger and Helsinki shads in 03 and 05.  I know lots of guys like the deeper runners, but I am mostly fishing shallow ponds and small lakes from shore.  I don't get out in a boat much.

My last day at Mark Twain last November , I limited out on the shallow diver . Two years ago my two biggest fish of the year came on a  red shallow diver on a full moonlit night .

Lures come and go. Esp with Rapala lately it seems. Get used to it. Its why I always buy more than one of anything, just in case. However, I've gone through so many "just in cases" over the years ... i now have too many tackle boxes. "Now where did I put those 1/4oz Big O's?"

The rear trebel on these lures dont stick out the very back , they are on the bottom like the Wiggle Wart . Rapala bought Storm? Were these originally a Storm design ?

I don't use the Crankin' Rap, but I do use the Clackin' Rap. I love the sound and the weight on them. I would love to buy up all the ones that they have at DSG, but that would cost several hundred dollars :(

Interesting. They look like a Storm design.

@georgeyew

I believe that clackin raps are intended to serve as a "loss leader" for DSG this year, along with certain yo-zuri baits and the ever-present Livetargets.  All are priced at $10 each and I think the price will drop to $5 each fairly regularly.  Recently they were offering both the clackin series and livetargets at buy two for $5 each.

Give it 5 years and people will swear it's the best crankbait around and they'll be going for $20 on ebay

Technically, the company that owns Rapala bought Storm, but yeah, that happened last century. #rockhomes

I was having a  hard time finding them a couple years ago. I noticed Rapala made them hard to find on their website as well. I was starting to think something is up. If I get a chance and see them in the bargain bin, I'm definitely picking up a dozen or so...great crankbait.

Don't need to wait even that long, it has been a better bait for me than the DTs and Deep Little N. Not sure why it never caught on.

Its been three years and I swear they are among the best . Bass fishing has been tough the past three days of my vacation . I tied on  the CR5 and had to dig the hooks out of a couple of keepers . They got throated .

Awesome resurrection of this thread from the dead.  They are about $11 each + shipping on Amazon and ebay at this point.

As a true crankin rap aficionado, I will hoist a cold one in honor of your heroic deed today.
