What is the best bass jig for rocky lakes

Featured Replies

I am wanting to start making my own jigs. I fish Bull shoals lake only. I need a jig that will go through rocks in clear water. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this forum thale you

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

There will no doubt be varying opinions on this one.

I prefer a football type head most of the time depending on the type / size rocky bottom I'm fishing.

Look into the swinging jigheads too. Those are supposed excel in rocky lakes.

I've done very well on Bull Shoals dragging a 1/2 or 3/4oz football jig. The swinging football head suggestion is a good one too. You'll lose a lot to the rocks and the zebra mussels so be ready with plenty of extras.

Football head jig seems to get caught in the rocks less, but the occasional hang up is still bound to happen... Rocky bottom fishing, it's a love/hate relationship!!

Table Rock is my home lake but I spend some time on Bull Shoals, If I had to pick one it would be a 1/2 or 3/4 oz. football head.

But, there's times a smaller profile like a 5/16 ball head like the old Eakins jig will out fish it.

I fish a lot of rock in Ky/Barkley Lake. I use football heads on all my jigs.
