Jig and plastics rod

Featured Replies

Any recommendations on a medium size jig and plastics rod? Not looking to spend more than $180, thanks.

Personally id opt for a 7' MH fast action rod for this purpose.Look at the St.Croix Mojo Bass line(130$) or the Dobyns Fury line(110$) that gets alot of love around here.Right at your 180$ limit is the new Daiwa Tatula Elite rods and the G.Loomis E6X might be worth checking out too.

Irod Crusher 733 or Genesis 2 733 or for little bigger baits 744

Crusher's are on sale at TackleWarehouse for $142 down from $180

If you are not in a hurry the new Daiwa Tatula Elite Series rods looks good, Ehlers MH 7'3" would be my choice in your price range.

I would give you 3 suggestions and I love all 3 of these rods. Number one is my primary jig rod. It is a Powell Max 683 CEF. You can read the Tackletour review of this rod. They have upgraded these rods so the same rod is now a Max3D model which is just a tad more powerful in its backbone.  The Inferno series version of this rod is a probably closer to the original, but either will be terrific rod to fish with

Next look at a Dobyns Sierra SA734C. That is a great do it all rod, good for jigs, tx rigs, spinnerbaits, and even some buzzbaits or spinnerbaits. i like the Sierra over the Fury for its sensitivity.

I also love the Irods Genesis II series of rods. Here I would look at the IRG704C and IRG 744C rods. Both very versatile rods.  My wife and I fish several other models of these rods and love them.

The bait monkey is trying really hard to get me to buy one of those.  I need another rod like a hole in the head though.

My custom ALX rods have Winn's handles because premium cork wasn't available and like them, feel good, don't slip, clean easily and very durable. Let's us know how the rods fish. Rod weight?

Horrible picture! My buddy Pat didn't wait for me to get ready, snapped it & threw my phone on the truck seat.

Didn't think about weighting it, threw a reed on & went fishing.

G loomis IMX are on sale for 220 at TW.  This would be a great rod for the money.  I know you said 180, but this rod would surpass most rods in that price range.

Daiwa zillion 7' 3" mh/f jig & worm model hands down for me. Feather light and balances really well with any bait caster. Sensitivity is awesome as well. They can be had for $183 on a couple sites right now.

In that price range and for that purpose I'd get a 7'H from Hammer Rods.
