trading in boat questions

Featured Replies

hey first post here but have been trolling around for awhile, lots of good information to be found in these pages!

so here is my issue, last year spur of the moment, I bought a boat. I had planned on waiting until spring but then I made the boneheaded mistake of pulling into a marina and checking out what they had to offer. Before I knew what happened I was driving away with a boat! problem is this: Boat is a bow rider. to be honest I really like the boat, but the issue is I spend 95% of my time on the water fishing,  and while I have landed a lot of fish off the boat its simply not a ideal fishing vessel. I'm looking to trade it in and get into something more fish friendly that allows me to do more what I want.

here is my question/concern. how much is it going to hurt the wallet letting this boat go and moving onto another one? bought brand new last fall and have done everything to keep it in great condition. 2016 bayliner sticker price of $27k looking to get into a fishing rig around $15-18k.

side note: if anyone wants to lend there thoughts of boats to look at, 95% of my fishing is for bass our two local lakes that allow engines are small and I intend to get it out on a few decent size electric motor only lakes. would like to be able to sit 3 people....I have been torn between a smaller aluminum bass boat with a smaller engine (50-90hp) or a aluminum deep v with 3 pedestal seats....reason for the deep v is I'm thinking it will be a little more comfortable for times we aren't fishing. Also I take one trip up to the thousand islands every year and want to have enough boat to make the trip worth towing the boat up.

Did you pay MSRP? Bayliner is considered the "Chevy" of boat brands and not the "Cadillac". You'd probably do better off selling it on your own or on consignment, than trading it in.

I agree with Slone, place an ad somewhere like 'iboats.com' and sell it yourself.

Equal to a Chevy?    Umm, maybe a Delray (jk)  :)

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Yup - Selling it yourself might get you more $$.

However,  if your warranty is not transferable that could be a point of contention for would be buyers.

Hassel wise - trading it in may be the easiest path.

Trading is a one year old boat you paid 27K is rarely a money making venture.

Finally if you fish 95% of the time that boat's running, officially, that makes it a fishing boat. :dance10: So I would make little to no effort to address whatever the remain 5% might be.  It's not enough to worry about.

Good Luck.

I don't know what the msrp is for your boat. but if you have only had it a year, your probably going to take a hit financially. especially if you financed it. I would go out on a limb and say that if you financed it, there is almost know way you have any equity in it unless you put a lot of $$$ down on it.

As far as an aluminum rig, I agree. I think it is a very good option for people that just want to get out an fish. for me the deep v or regular bass tracker style question, would depend on what type of water you are fishing. if you are fishing large bodies of water where waves could be a factor then I would opt for the deep v if not, the tracker style boat would be great.

Find your local Craig's list on line and try that. I found it very effective.
