The handle on my favorite spinning rod is pretty beat up. The cork is discolored and starting to separate. I want to save this rod because its the best (cheap) spinning rod and is great for throwing lighter lures as well as medium weight lures. What should I do to repair the handle? Also where (websites or stores) can I get the stuff I need to do the job?

Havent tryed this but jansnetcraft and barlows both. Sell handles and supplies. Ive been wondering if it would be worth the money to do just one as i have a shimano with a broken butt handle

Go to Mudhole.com and go to winn grips, you can watch videos on youtube "how to replace grips with winn grips" and it will show you how to do it. The winn grips come in different colors. They feel great too!

What I would do is get a magic eraser and clean the handle up.  If it still needs to be replaced then the win grips might be the best option.  If it looks like a little wood filler will take up the small holes and then some u40 cork seal.

Clean it, fill it, seal it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've got some time coming up so I'll try to fix it and if I think its not gonna work I'll replace it. 

From the pics it doesn't look like that cork is that far gone. Just needs a little tlc. Clean/fill/seal as suggested 

If that were mine, I'd just clean it up and seal it. You can try filling in the voids. Pit paste works. Golden oak color wood filler works. Sand down a wine cork to get a pile a of cork dust, mix it with elmers glue. That works too.

 

None of them will match the cork very well. A cork patch job most often sticks out like a dime in a goat's butt. It will likely fall out sooner than you would like. 

If that were mine I would buy a Winn grips wrap and it would perform better than new, and probably look better than new.

If $10 is too much to risk, go to a tennis or bike store and buy either tennis grip wrap or bike handlebar wrap for about $3.

 

 

If that were mine I'd just clean it and keep right on using it.  Doesn't look that bad to me.

another option is the Accu Cull Grip Saver.   basically a heat shrink for your handles.
