No luck today.

Featured Replies

Went to a local pond today, didn't catch a single thing. Last time I went I used the same set of lures and caught 40+. It was drizzling and colder today than the day I caught that amount. How much of an effect does that have on the fish? They might've just been hanging out lower in the water but I tried different depths and every location. Or it could've just been an off day I'm not sure. Anyone know why?

Things change sometimes hour to hour, a change in weather can really force you to adjust.

With the conditions you describe i would figure the moved tight to cover and got lockjaw.

I agree with the above post... Anytime I'm struggling for a bite I usually find one right on top of the cover. Finesse presentations... Senko, dropshot...

That's why they call it fishin....

it happens to all of us from time to time.

I agree with Brian.. They could be tight to cover or tight to the bottom, or just sat there and watched your bait swim by and look the  other way.

When conditions change they can do also.

You could go back the next day and catch another 40+

It's the angler's refusal to accept defeat that keeps him coming back for more   :wink7:

Not sure about your neck of the woods, but here we have had alot of cold rain which has dropped water temps a few degrees.   That turned the bite off from before the rain came in on Friday to after it left yesterday.

That is very true. It makes me eager to get back out there tomorrow.

I think other than the urge to spawn nothing affects the fish more than a weather pattern. There's always going to be a way to catch some no matter the weather though, you might have to work your ass off to do it, or never figure it out at all, while some days you swear you could catch fish on a bare hook and rope.

With the water getting colder I'd suggest finesse presentations and slowing way down and go from there.

I also got skunked today, a lot of rain so ponds were very dark muddy and flooded. Temps dropped as well.

How do you guys fish rain swollen muddy water? Threw frogs tonight and swim jogs - slow!

It happens. Nothing really can do about it. I've fished before for an entire morning and never caught a thing or even had a sign that there were even fish in the water. Around 11AM that day it started to rain. I thought this absolutely sucks. 10 minutes later it stopped and the sun came out all bright and hot. It was like a light switch being turned on. Caught like 8 in my next 10 casts, including one almost 5 lbs. 10 minutes later a cloud rolled in and hid the sun. They quit biting as fast as they started. Weird day but proves conditions can change in a matter of minutes...
