Hey guys....  How many people would be happy for a holiday to give back to the large mouth bass?  I propose everyone putting 50 lbs of crawfish in the waters to help them grow.

If only! Definitely don't think that's legal in my local

reservoirs, but if I had permission...and a budget...  

 

Maybe add some freshwater prawns to the mix...

Prawn is good too!  It's about giving them more food to eat and help them grow.  And if whatever it is, can establish it's self, starts to create, flourish's, and provides future food is even better for the big bass!

If it's your private pond go for it, if it's public get permission, this is how desease and unwanted critters get transplanted.

Thanks for your comment Tom.  Tom, did it sound like a pond, public, or a holiday to give back to Bass?  I'm not going to contact anybody if I want to throw a loaf of bread once a year in the water.  Feed fish and they grow brother!  You have to know that with a pb 15lbs.

Your contribution to the wellness of trophy size bass by stocking 50 lbs of crayfish from the same body of water will also feed catfish along with a few bass. The downside is you may introduce non native deseased crayfish into the ecosystem that may have a major impact on the tons of crayfish living there. Every day is a holiday, every meal is a feast.

PS, 15 lbs is the sites benchmark and my minimum weight for a FLMB to be considered a trophy size bass, not close to my PB.

Tom, ok so you don't understand my thought.  It's not about crayfish.  DO you hunt?   Ever added an apple tree to the property you hunt?  Imagine if everyone did something on a determined holiday for bass to give back to the environment

What you're suggesting folks should do is illegal in many states, it is here in Kansas.

K.A.R. 115-8-12: Don't dump bait. You cannot stock or release wildlife on department lands or waters, navigable publicly-owned waters and federal reservoirs unless authorized. Dispose of unused bait on dry ground or in an approved bait receptacle.

 

 It's an easy way to move invasive species like zebra and quagga mussels, Asian carp, curly-leaf pond weed, Eurasian water milfoil, white perch, or the rusty crawfish. If you want to help out the fish in a body of water, talk to the local biologist and see what the fish population density is. If it's towards the high side, maybe keep a limit of smaller keepers to thin out the herd a little, effectively making it so there's more food for the remaining fish. To stick with your hunting analogy, it's similar to culling a herd of deer of the older animals to make it possible for maturing animals to reach their full potential.

What you propose to do is illegal here. Baiting deer is also illegal here

First off unless you're talking a pond 50# of crawfish ain't nothing!

 

Second I live in southwest Louisiana & we probably sell more crawfish than anywhere in America. Right now live crawfish is going for anywhere from $5.25 to $2.89 per pound or $263-145 per sack!

 

Third for your plan to have any effect you would need to released at least a sack every other week.

 

At that price it would be more efficient to contact Wildlife & Fisheries and purchase Florida strain fingerlings.
