Has anyone bought any refurbished dobyns rods, direct from dobyns?  I was wanting to know how common it is to get a rod with a damaged blank ie weather they're worth the risk.  I was specifically looking at the fury and savvy's.

I haven't bought a refurb from them personally but plan on buying my next fury that way.  Dobyns' customer service is touted pretty highly so I have no worries.  I'm sure their refurbished rods are fully inspected and in great shape or they wouldn't sell them.  

They usually give you a summary of the condition on a rod-by-rod basis for the refurbished ones.  They'll tell you if they repaired the handle, guides, etc.  I'm sure they wouldn't sell one if they knew the blank was damaged, but sometimes a blank can be damaged with no real visible damage.  It's hard to say what exactly they would do if a refurbished rod broke soon after purchase, but I'd like to think they'd work something out for you.

The refurbished rods are supposedly no different then a brand new one when it comes to warranty.  

Gary himself has said they carry a full warranty.

Yes. If you request pics of specific rod you are interested in they will accommodate you. Dobyns has a trade in program so the majority are simply that, a trade in with no repair required. Any repairs are disclosed. They fall under warranty.  It's pretty much a no risk deal.

Oh man, why do I click these threads, they have a discontinued Savvy 9'6" ML/F spinning rod that sounds like it would be a blast for fishing long stretches of riprap out of my kayak.  

Most kayak anglers seem to prefer shorter rods so are you sure a really long rod will not be difficult to fish with?

Oh, it would be, which is why I am not likely to buy it.  In addition to issues of storage and general handling, the length of the butt section would mess with seated casting, especially when wearing a PFD. But, I  think it would be good for a bunch of spots on some of the rivers around Annapolis, especially for schoolie stripers, and while I don't fish salt often enough to justify buying it, I would love to fish it for an afternoon.  

My favorite rod to fish for fun is a 9'6" ml South bend trophy taker I actually think it's a salmon rod.but I use it for gills a finesse bass on small ponds makes everything look huge.  Bought it at a garage sale for $5.  Sure wish I could find a couple more
