The Bass Boats Did It

Recommended Posts

This Is A First :

Went Fishing At A local Lake , Which You Cannot Run Your Outboard. It's About 140 Acres. When I Pulled Up To The Dock , There Were Several People Fishing From The Shore. As I Was Getting The Boat Ready , One Of The Group Said In A Loud Voice , There's One Of Those Bass Boats , I Said And ? They Said In A Nasty Tone , Your The Ones That Run Those Big Trolling Motors With The Big Props That Chop Up The Lake Grass and That's Why We Keep Getting Grass On Are Hooks , I Just Started "LAUGHING".

I Went and Fished For Awhile , When I Returned The Idiots Were Still Fishing , They Asked If I Had Caught Anything , Yep , Just Grass Today and Went On My way.

Ignorance is Bliss.

I must need a bigger prop. My trolling motor doesn't chop up the grass.

Reproduce? Yes.

Voters? Maybe, maybe not. But they'll be the 1st to complain about the current political state of affairs in this country even if they didn't exercise their privilege to vote. ?

Shoulda pointed to the boat and said "Worlds most expensive lawn mover." Those goofs were probably just jealous and wished they had a sweet ride like yours.

I had a guy in a marina yell at me because my trolling motor prop was "A danger to the dock cables!"

That's right, my plastic trolling motor prop was going to slice that giant braided steel cable capable of supporting several tons of docks and boats, like a hot knife through butter. I suppose he viewed it as a straw that broke the camel's back situation.

Apparently, all the ski boats and cruisers with big inboards and stainless steel props weren't an issue though

If I've learned anything from my job, don't try to argue with those people, you'll just end up frustrated no matter how right you were, and they'll walk away puffed up because they clearly won the argument.

I fish from shore, don't lump me in with that bunch. Maybe they should use the right bait for the conditions i.e. weedless frogs, t-rigged plastics. I've pulled some decent fish out of that kind of stuff. And I  think jet skis pull up a lot more grass than bass boats do. ( when in doubt blame jet skis )

Marina guys really love to yell at kayakers.  My standard response is to yell "HELLO!" and wave at them.  No matter what they say to me, I just keep yelling "HELLO!" and waving at them.  They usually give up yelling at me pretty quickly.

I'm a voter and I certainly do not.

But it's OK because I live in the woods.

Got to smile.  That kills them.

What makes me laugh is when their argument gets to the point of calling me names.

Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, and beat you with experience.

I have found that it is hard to distinguish idiot fishermen based on how or where they are fishing. Heaven knows there are an alarming number both on the bank and fishing from bass boats. Fortunately the idiots are out numbered in most places. I like the corrallary to .ghoti.'s maxim: argue with a fool and you're liable to act like one.

Interesting subject. I fish for bass both on land and on boats and have noticed that many boaters in South Florida tend to be rude to land based fishermen more than the other way around. Its not uncommon here for a boater, jetskier, etc to fly pass a area where people are fishing from land.Anyone with common sense will know that what these boaters are doing is rude and unsportsmanlike and I am sure those boaters who drive aggressively do not care if what they are doing is wrong. The funny thing is that often the land based fisherman catches bigger bass than these boaters, maybe the boaters should learn to slow down a bit and effectively fish the water better and not run and gun so much!

Just the other day I was fishing down a bank and an older lady came out of her house and started yelling "get away from my shoreline, my grandkids play here!  You don't have any business fishing here, and don't you throw your f****** baits into my dock! My response was (I was more amused than anything) "ok-dokie, just let me finish fishing the PUBLIC water underneath and next to your dock.  I won't fish your shoreline." That finished her little short temper off, and she pretty much blew a fuse trying to cuss me and threaten to call security at the same time.  Needless to say, i took my time fishing that area...

In 1973, my parents bought a lot in Canyon Lake, California.  At that time, there were only a few homes built on the water, one of which was adjacent to our lot.  My parents went through the process of submitting plans to build a house & were told they couldn't build the 2 story house they submitted because a neighbor opposed it.  Turns out it was the homeowner next to us, he never spoke to my parents about his concerns, he just went straight to the HOA.

So my dad had plans drawn up for a 1 story home (which didn't require neighbor approval) that jutted as far out & as close to the water as he could.  Since we were on a point, what this did was completely block the view of the main lake of the existing homeowner.  Needless to say, said neighbor flipped out and from that moment on, was the stereotypical grumpy old man on the porch.  The only time he would talk to us would be to yell or cuss about something.

At this time, I was a shy 10 year old who was just really discovering fishing.  I would walk the shoreline (in the water) catching bluegill from the brush or under docks.  One day as I got near his dock, this neighbor came outside growling & yelling at me, intimidating for a child who had been raised to respect ones elders.  I immediately left, telling my parents about the encounter later that evening.  My dad's reaction was that I was allowed to fish there and that I had permission to stand up for myself if it happened again.

So the next morning I'm out again and the neighbor once more comes out of his house.  As he comes down the ramp towards his dock, he is telling me to get the hell away from his property.  I didn't react and didn't make eye contact, I was too scared.  He continued and said something about he was tired of the noise our family always made (??), at which point I got my sea legs.  I looked up at him and replied "Oh yeah, well your wife kept us up all night with her barking".  I have no idea where that smart aleck comment came from, but it completely stunned the old man.  He stammered & sputtered, walked back up to the house and never was seemed as intimidating as I once thought he was.
