What size Keitech for 1/4 oz swim jig

Featured Replies

I am going to start experimenting with swim jigs, what size Swing impact fat would fit the best on a 1/4 oz Strike king. I apologize  in advance for asking such vague questions.

It really depends on the size of the hook. Actually i use the regular Swing IMPACT 4in, and the Easy shiners on 1/4 oz. They work well and are cheaper. On larger jigs, etc i use 3.8 and 4.8 fat impacts.

3.8" is going to be your standard size but you can go bigger or smaller as the situation dictates.

I don't consider any matching size to weight, rather I consider retrieve speed, and profile.  You can reel in a larger bait much slower on a lighter head, and vice-versa.  As long as the hook isn't taking up more than about 1/3 of the bait, it's fine.

on a 1/4 oz swim jig, I use either a 3.3 or a Reaction Innovations little dipper.  You don't want anything much bigger to overpower the jig.

3.3 and 3.8 are my bread and butter. The Lake Fork 3.5" Magic Shad's are another solid bait choice.

While we're talking Keitechs...this will prolong the life of your baits.

Thank you for the post @J Francho.  Lately I've been super gluing them onto jig heads with mixed results. The toothpick seems much simpler.

There's gotta be a 1001 uses for toothpicks when fishing.

Thanks for the advice

Is the toothpick supposed to keep the trailer from sliding down the hook?

Exactly what it's for.  Does not work on weedless hooks, only open hooks.
