Caught my PB yesterday. How much do you think it weighs?

Featured Replies

I caught my pb after a tournament day at my local lake. I managed to mark how long it was on my road and measure it. It was 19.6 inches long. How much do you guys think it weighs?

26 lbs, 3 oz.  Congratulations on setting a new world record...

  • Hard to tell, I'd guess somewhere around 3 pounds..? Nice fish ?

  • Welcome aboard! If you had a measurement of the girth  it would be a little easier to guess.   But at that length it should be in the 4-4.3 or so pound weight, give or take.

Yeah it's definitely 3! I was just curious if it was 4 or close to 4 because of its belly, guess I'm going to have to invest in a scale haha. Thanks dude!

My guess is that it's probably between 2.75 and 3.25 pounds. A nice fish.

A 19" fish with a good belly around here goes anywhere from 3.75-4.50 and that fish looks to fall somewhere in that range.

You guys are tough. 4.5 to 5 # she's fat

Howdy and welcome aboard! I was thinking somewhere around the 4lb range or so. Nice bass!

Congrats on the fish.

That fish looks to be around 3.25-3.75 pounds. Definitely not even close to a 5 pounder.

More than 3, less than 4. Solid fish.

19" and that thick could go 5. If you can guestimate the girth, there are calculators you can use. Its always hard to tell in pictures. How large the person is, hands are, etc all play a role.

This one was 18" and went 4.1, yes with a scale:

This fish is 21 1/2" long, 14 1/2" girth and she weighed 5 lbs 4oz. So if your fish was 2" shorter and is no bigger in the gut , it's less than 5 lbs. I'd guess

3 3/4 to 4 1/4.  Nice fish however you look at it.

It's 4 max, probably a little less.  Doesn't have the mouth or eyes of a 5+.  Those who have caught a bunch over 5 know what I'm talking about.

More importantly, keep it off the grass and give it a chance to grow bigger.  It's probably over 6 years old. It would be a shame if it was killed my mishandling.

I was so stoked on catching it because the seniors at this lake have not been biting at all. Every tournament for the last couple of weeks were all low numbers so I was pretty psyched on catching her. I definitely took good care of her and took a few pictures and let her get her stamina back up and give a kick. What does laying a bass on the grass do?

They are not meant to touch anything but water.  They have a protective coating on their body that keeps them safe from bacterial infection.  Handling them with dry hands or placing them on any dry surface diminishes their chances of survival exponentially.

This is why MLF gives penalties for a fish that touches marine carpeting.  An absorbent material like a paper towel is like a death sentence.

If you have to lay them down use a silicone net.  Always wet your hand before touching them.

Just buy a scale. I weigh anything I think is at least ~3lbs  and sometimes it is pretty surprising. I would guess that fish at 3lb10oz. I would also guess that after being out of the water for four pictures and laid on the ground that it died.

Next time get the proper measu:Drements you won’t have this problem or get a cheapy scale:D I say call it a solid 4 and try and beat that from now on. So 4 is a great pb now you need a 5:)

The fish is fine. By saying this by no means am I starting an argument on my thread but don't be so negative. You take a hook and impale fish with it and your worried about the fish being on the ground for 2 seconds. Just about every pro bass angler flips them on their boat.

Actually, he isn't being negative.  His opinion is based on fact, how lying on the dirt or boats carpet removes a fish's slime coat and causes a certain percentage of death in the days following release (not immediate).

Pro anglers get paid to get a bass into the boat and have it survive for a few hours until it is released, they don't get penalized if it goes belly up a day or two later due to infection.  Not saying anything negative about boat flipping or pro anglers, just laying out the rationale why it may not be best to use pro anglers as an example of the best practices for fish survival.

A hook in the mouth of a fish is very different than removal of the slime coat, as far as survival goes.
